Our move to the Villages is imminent. I already know we are bringing too much with us. Is there a Good Will Drop off location in The Villages ?
-and-
How much is allowed to place curbside for trash pick up? Bags/ Full boxes ?

Thanks for your time. Will

We brought way to much and would have boxes full of stuff on the driveway. If it wasn't picked up by people that look for things, the sanitation engineers hauled it away...

Why pay to move things? Get rid of it now. Thrift stores all want donations, and provide a tax write off too.
If you do move things here, there are many thrift stores that would love your clean, unripped, working stuff.

There is a Goodwill dropoff on 441 near Total Wine and Mission BBQ

Put it out the day before trash pick-up. The dumpster divers will snap it up. Every time we put something out we can’t believe how quickly it disappears.

This is from: Sanitation Information (https://districtgov.org/community/sanitation.aspx)

Bulk Item Information

Items such as office/desk or kitchen chairs, small lamps (bulbs removed) and ceiling fans (blades removed) can be placed with your household waste for disposal. Large items such as appliances, couches, flat-screen TVs, microwaves and grills must be scheduled for pickup by calling Sumter Sanitation at 352-748-0109. A charge of $10.00 will be added to your monthly utility bill for this service in the NSCUDD service area. Bulk pickups must be canceled at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled collection date or the charge will apply.

As Tal implied when asking for your Village, it may depend on where you are. this is for the NSCUDD service area in Sumter County.

I would use any of the charity thrift stores before padding Goodwill executive salaries.

Bargains and Blessings in Wildwood is a locally-run thrift store that sells a huge variety of secondhand stuff at good prices...not like the Goodwill by Wal-Mart on 466 which seems intent on milking every possible dime out of what they sell. I'd certainly consider them when donating. Also as Post #6 indicated, putting stuff out curbside on the day before your trash is picked up pretty much guarantees that it will be gone in a matter of hours. There seems to be a cottage industry (maybe more than one) among the locals who apparently know the pickup days for each village. I've seen the same pickup truck and trailer cruising our Village on Mondays and Thursdays, and have seen stuff as large as full-size sofas being carted off by them. I've given away everything from extra wine glasses to a glass-topped Lanai table to various electronics including a printer and a monitor that I replaced with something larger.

I don't mind helping the locals.

Our Mother's Attic and Bargains and Blessings are thrift shops in Wildwood that are run by local churches. Revenues support the community. Food Pantry, etc.

Revenue from sales there goes to fund the food pantry and soup kitchen. Everyone is volunteers.

About the good will - what came back when you questions that situation by doing a Google? Just wondering as I am there also.

Why in the world would you pay to bring stuff here to get rid of it? Don't you have a Goodwill where you are now?

Seriously, try to leave it behind. I brought very little but my CD collection, my DVD collection, and some of my library. And one chair. I got mostly new furniture from Amazon (bed that elevates—great choice), eBay (used Ekornes chair and loveseat from Norway—very popular in The Villages), and Wayfair (throw rugs, dining table and chairs, headboard, tv table). And now all the CDs and most of the DVDs and a number of the books are up for sale on eBay or donated to the Lade Lake Library. I wasn’t ready to let go then. I am now.

If when you get here you find you have too much furniture, why bother to sell it? Give it away. Put an ad on Facebook Marketplace, or NextDoor or Craig’s List saying what you have for free to the first to answer who can pick it up that day. You’ll probably get rid of it in minutes with pickup in a couple hours, and they will carry it out themselves. You don’t need the money, and maybe the people who take the furniture need it, or maybe they sell it for a few dollars, but you don’t have to. Saved you the trouble, and you’ve been generous to those in need. I’ve done this a number of times, here and elsewhere. Use this as well for appliances that work well but you are replacing. I gave away a 20 year old refrigerator in my garage this year. It worked. It was picked up by a couple that run a dog shelter.

I agree. I often take things to the Hospice Thrift Store across the street from Walmart on 441. They took care of my mother in her final days.

Many, many thrift stores surrounding The Villages who would be glad to pick up your unwanted items or you can also drop off items at their stores but not large pieces of furniture.

Yes, use a church to drop off donations. There is a great one in Wildwood right in town called Bargains and Blessing.
I would not do Goodwill.

The Goodwill store is located at 11954 County Road 105, Oxford, FL. This is basically across the street and next to Walmart SuperCenter at 4085 Wedgewood Ln., The Villages. Google it. I hope this helps.

There’s a furniture store locally called Almost Perfect Furniture and Home Decor that sells gently used furniture and decor. They bought two bed frames from me that were brand new from Wayfair but ended up not working for my guest room. I contacted them online, they asked for a photo, and then made me a decent offer. They picked up and unassembled both pieces, and handed me a check. Very efficient operation. Most items though we take to Bargains and Blessings on 301 because they’re the closest to us down here in DeLuna. They have specific days for drop offs.
