Hi All,
I am a newcome, scheduled to close on my new house 09/24/24.
I would like to replace the carpet that the builder installed in the two bedrooms with the same vinyl plank the buider installed for the rest of house before my new furniture scheduled to be delivered on 09/25/24.
Has any one done this before ? Can someone recommend a flooring guy ?

We are thinking of replacing our bedroom carpet with some sort of vinyl. Only problem is floor can be kind of cold while getting up during the night.

How would you expect them to do this between the time you close on 9/24 and the furniture comes on 9/25?
You'd be lucky to have someone available for that short window.

We found Mohawk Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring is actually warmer than tile, and almost as quiet as carpet. We bought this at Lowe's and I did the install myself. This is a 100% vinyl product; it is waterproof, and it cuts with a box cutter or a specialized cutter.
Feel free to send me a PM if you would like to see it or get further info over the phone.

check with the warranty company and get the same flooring. Ours couldn't be done without transition strips so we had the whole house redone. Great Lakes did ours. It was between them and Robertos.

Call warranty or your rep Monday, acquire the floor make model color code.
Your agent can meet with you and flooring rep, to make sure floor will transition. You will want to use the same company as builder. They will have better availability than random companies.
If floor is in stock you may be able to have floors installed on 9/25. They will not schedule on your closing day.
Have all of your furniture dropped in your living area. Floor guys will move your furniture when completed. Good luck
Bonus every business has scale floor plans, for every house. Unless you have a stretch in a spec home which sometimes happens

Bought new last year. Ripped out the cheap rolled vinyl as well as carpet in bedrooms - went with luxury vinyl plank from Roberto’s - very happy and I love my floors.

I did all of ours in our new home before moving the furniture in. I did it myself. It's pretty easy and only requires a few simple tools.

Can you delay the furniture delivery for a couple of days? I know you want everything perfect, now. But Michael 61's insight is helpful, you may want all the floors done, & no furniture would make it much easier. The cost of spending a few nights in a local hotel may be worth it in the long run. You would be able to be onsite, first to make your decisions, get the flooring your really want, then to let the guys do the work & then finally to accept delivery of your new furniture. Best of luck in your new home.

New Houses the Developer will do for thousands of dollars. After closing a flooring business will do for much cheaper. I have used LA Flooring on St Rd 301 in Wildwood twice. Great family business. Very nice and reasonable pricing.

Yoko I had BEST FLOORING located on 466 just east of Morse road replace my whole house. Super nice to work with, no pressure and they will show you the difference between it all. Water proof verse water resistant. Hot and cold types, and the different backings and their purpose. They were recommended by a business that had their store floor installed by them. Their preferred installer was a man and wife team. They were OCD about there work. I was super impressed with their craftmanship. I Give Best Flooring 6 stars on the 5 scale.

We replaced our bedroom carpet with well matched flooring by Floor Masters, I believe. We ordered an area rug for under the bed, 9x12 for us. The company did the floor, positioned the area rug, and repositioned furniture. Love it.
We have pets who sleep under the bed. Guard pets.

We have area rugs in the living room. If we could rip the carpeting off the bedroom floors, replace the particle boards with wood, then cover it with vinyl planking, we'd add area rugs for accent and "warmth."
Hoping to afford that within the next two years - that horrible BEIGE bedroom carpet that came with the house is dingy, stained, and can't be cleaned (because of the particle board beneath it - if it gets wet it'll expand and dissolve and we'd end up with sinkholes in our floors).

I had the bedroom carpet removed from my bedrooms two weeks ago and installed LVP. My only regret is not bringing home the plank I selected to see how it would look in the house. Now I have to paint the walls to complement the color of the flooring.
Carpet is a textile. There is no such thing as ‘clean’ carpet. Entire ecosystems thrive within the fibers. Vacuum cleaners are unwieldy and can’t reach inaccessible areas. Even though most of the dust, dirt, debris (and critters!) is sucked up, you’re still left with residual grime. There’s a reason people do not have white carpets.
Carpet also cheapens the aesthetic of a house. Any other flooring will elevate your space, increase your home value, and be far easier to keep clean (really clean).

I was waiting for this response! LOL 😂 Never going to happen. Most flooring companies are 3-4 weeks out in their scheduling. The OP won’t even get measured before the furniture arrives.

I am actually installing LVP right now, throughout the whole house (doing it myself). I went with stain master from Lowes and it seems to be good quality LVP, way better than the garbage that was previously installed.
The only downside about doing it after the fact is that you will probably need transition strips wherever the new flooring meets the existing, even though you're meeting up with the same LVP. Some people don't mind that though.

I closed on my house in May and my agent found out for me who the floor installer was (Great Lakes), they already knew what was in the house and had it in stock. I called them before closing and arranged for them to do the 3 bedrooms starting the day after closing (I came in person). It took them that day only and looked great. This way it was done before furniture. Then I put felt pads that I got at Walmart on all the furniture legs. I love it and don't find them cold at all. I use the non-slip pads under my rugs.

Opinion, makes the room noisier as sounds have less soft stuff to absorb it. Floor is cold to the feet the walking around barefoot, waking and from shower. Personally more comfortable than tile. Buy a Roomba Vac cleaner Keep stuff off the floor and let er go with the door closed. Come back an hour latter and your floor has been vacuumed. \

If you have a brand new home it is standard practice that the builder will come to the house to explain a few things about it. You can ask him who installed your flooring. Or just call him. Name should be on your papers. Or ask your agent for the name and number.

Much good input so far in this thread.
I'd also add that IMO, vinyl plank flooring would be a plus if and when you sell your house. Old people = occasional incontinence, and trips from the bed to the bathroom might not always be incident-free. Cleaning the vinyl is no problem. On the other hand cleaning the carpet in such cases might not be as problem-free, to say nothing of the smell that may very well be there after repeated incidents.

Replaced all of the bedroom carpeting in our 2004 house with hardwood to compliment hardwood in the main living areas. Work was done by Great Lakes Carpet & Tile, Lady Lake, (352) 753-7502. Work was completed before we moved into the house. It was a 2-day job with excellent results. Sales staff is easy to work with and installers were very professional. Highly recommended.

I'm also a native New Yorker and have been in The Village for 12 years.
We were here for a couple of years before deciding to replace carpeting, but instead of vinyl we went with hardwood flooring.
Since we were already here for 2 years, we had all our furniture in place, and it did not seem to be an issue.
The place we purchased the flooring was Floor Masters - 9581 US-301, Wildwood, FL (352) 399-0090
They have a large selection of hardwood, but I also believe they have tile and vinyl.
I don't know if it is the same today, but when we went the place was jammed packed with homeowners and contractors.
If you can I suggest you give it a try.

I realized that this does not address your question. However, I just put LVP in my entire basement (up north). That included ripping up the existing carpet. It's very easy to install and looks beautiful. If you're somewhat of a DIY, it's not overly challenging at all. Another option (if you're trying to save some $$) is to order all the flooring (measure SF and order 10% more). Then hire a good handyman. I'm not a "flooring guy" and have no specific flooring skills and had no problem with this project. As a reference, the whole job took a l-o-n-g day. Call it a day and a half. Using my labor, I saved about 70% over the quotes I got from a professional flooring outfit.

We bought our house last year. We replaced the bedroom carpet with vinyl plank flooring that we bought in and had it picked up at the Lowes in Wildwood. We also had the house painted at that time. We used a painter and flooring person in the Villages. I think this is the name of the person that did the floors, but you would have to call and find out. My wife said it’s a personal choice and I total agree. Some like the feel and warmth of carpet in the bedroom. Others like the way the luxury vinyl looks as it flows through from the living area into the bedrooms depending on what model of home you purchase. In short, whatever the wife wants is exactly what is best.

I did this in a fully furnished home. The furniture did not present a problem. They moved the furniture to the other side of the room. I would not worry about rushing. Move in and then reconsider. I got wood floors due to the use of a wheel chair. Easier to use the chair on the wood floors.

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions and recommendations.
I interviewed 7 flooring companies and Tony D at 774-644-9317 (shown as above).
I decided to buy the LVP from Floor Masters and hired Tony D to do the work.
The total price is almost 1/2 of Great Lakes and other companied quotes. (Robertos quote is pretty good too)
Tony is one of best contractors whom i have worked with. ( I have been a landlady since 2003 and have done a lot of remodeling).
He is very responsive, responsible, and reliable.
He picked up the LVP on 09/23, started the job on 09/24 ( from 4 to 10 PM), and finished the job on 09/25 (from 4:30 to 10:30 PM) as he promised.
I am extremely happy with his work. I highly recommend his services.
