Harry's Law, starring Kathy Bates, premiered on NBC last night (Monday). She's a wisecracking attorney who ditches corporate/patent law to work criminal law in a rougher section of Cinncinnati (Gracie...is there such a thing????).

This one looks like a keeper to me .... funny dialog with great acting by Ms Bates and loads of potential for funny and interesting plots.

Check it out next week.

Anybody else see it? What did you think?

I liked it very much......I could watch Kathy Bates read the telephone book and enjoy her.

Saw it. Loved it.

And I did not know until last night when I watched it that David Kelley (Boston Legal) wrote it. Ohhhhhh, my favorite television writer.....and also, I did not already know that it is set in Cincinnati. The courthouse scenes looked like the actual courthouse here in Cincy, but I do not know if it really was.

If it was actually filmed here, it is probably best that I did not know about it. I might have been there and would have made a fool of myself over David Kelley.

I was a little disappointed.

Maybe it will strike my fancy next week.

Loved it! Have loved relevancy mixed with humor ever since Archie Bunker.

My DVR is all set to record the series! Excellent. David Kelley is the best - my sense of humor all the way.

I watched because I did know it was the Boston Legal writer. I had enjoyed LA Law (same writer) and Boston Legal was my favorite show when it was on.

This new show is Boston Legal-like. First episode was funnnnnnnnny. As for the politics, it could easily offend no one or everyone. Why? Because it is quintessential Kelley in how it makes fun of itself. (Example: Appealing to Bates's character's bleeding heart: "my mother died in childbirth with my older brother".)

Lots of laughs. Look forward to the next episode.

You are so right. Lots of funny dialogue. Like when the "security" guy tells her that she needs to pay him $200 a month because sometimes businesses in that neighborhood could be "burglarized, vandalized, or plagiarized."

And in classic Kelley mode, he throws us the juxtaposition of that "bleeding heart" beating inside the woman who has spent her career as a high-powered patent attorney to the fact that the lady packs heat. Bates' character is no cliché. That's for sure. But, of course, Kelley's characters are never clichés, unless he wants them to be. And that works for him, too.

One of the things I have always admired about Kelley's scripts is that he does not try to dictate what we are supposed to think, he just gives us some things to think about.

Can't wait to see it - I set the DVR to record the series, as 10:00 is way too late for me - all this yoga, golf, gardening and knitting down here makes me tired :). I too loved Boston Legal, although we were a little late discovering it and only saw it on DVR also. I also set the DVR for Hot in Cleveland - thanks Boomer, for the reminders!

ANYTHING written by David Kelly is sure to be a huge success; he's one of the best writers ever. Loved Boston Legal as well and Harry's Law has a similar seriousness with some pretty subtle humor. The acting ensemble is a perfect match and Kelly has another hit on his hands. Kudos to Kelly; he's a genious!! Loved the combination law firm AND shoe store. What a hoot.

Tried to watch it all the way through, but stopped at the halfway point. Typical cliche...older upper middle class woman who is tough and carries heat is out to save the hood.:rant-rave:

I got a kick out of the show. Quirky characters but not too over the top.

I thought it was okay. Lots of characters introduced in the first show. Did not like the court room scenes. I will have to give it one more try as the wife liked it.

Oh, Oh,,, I can tell, I'm not gonna like it... If Mac doesn't, I won't either.

Hey Mac, instead, let's keep meeting at Havana on Monday nights to listen to karaoke and dance!!! That sounds much better....

(Every time I see Kathy Bates (who I do like and admire) I see her torturing poor James Caan in Misery... ugh!!)

If you have "on demand" with your cable, no need to DVR. The show is available "on demand". Hot in Clevland is also available on demand.

I love Kathy Bates also. This is a go for me. As long as David Kelley doesn't go waaaaaaay overboard, I'll be on deck. lol
