Remember “Leave it to Beaver”?

I read why Barbara Billingsly aka June Cleaver always wore pearls or such on the show.

She was self conscious about a “hollow” in her lower neck. So the jewelry was there to cover a bit.

Just a trivia bit.

I can't afford pearls so I just use a clam on a string. You get used to the smell after a few weeks. 😏😏😏

To expand on this, she was 42 at the beginning of the series and 48 when it ended. Definitely playing a role of a younger woman than you would normally expect back in those days.

Somewhat interesting too. The husband, played by Hugh Beaumont was 47 at the start of the series.

And I just thought that adults looked really old in those days when I grew up watching the reruns starting in the late 70's. :)

I'm guessing back then most couples became parents in their mid to late 20's.

It was a classy look that few could pull off today. Other than Marge Simpson of course.

Naw, I wear my pearls whenever I like, playing pickleball etc. They were my mother’s and I like them. Real pearls need to be worn because the oil from your skin keeps them shiny. However, I leave my pearl enhancer broach (see Camilla’s) for special occasions. (If you want to hide your neck you wear a scarf not a necklace that brings attention to that body part.)
