With what might be the first "direct hit" in a long time in The Villages, who is your go to, most trusted weather source? Do you just follow The Weather Channel? Do you track a station out of Tampa? Orlando? Curious for as much Villages specific information I can track. Thanks.

I would not necessarily rely on the weather casters as much (including the Facebook ones) but listen to what the Governor’s updates suggest we do, etc?

Mike's Weather page is my #1 for hurricanes. He.or less provides a synthesis of the major storm models.

Also, Zoom Earth is an app similar to Windy above that's a new favorite due to the long range forecast model.

It doesn’t really matter. Everyone has the same access to observational data and model results as well as the forecasts from the NHC.

Agreed. DP provides what I call the Joe Friday approach to the storms… Just the facts!

Frequent and hype-free information and updates.

The local networks are still hype machines. Ugh!

you are absolutely correct. the national weather service is what the weather forecasters use ...... after that, the one with the shortest dress, prettiest face, and biggest chest is my preference...

It’s the only professional career that you may be 50% correct and still have a job. Nobody is going to sue you, if your info is wrong.
That wobble change can take predation to a whole new level. A stall changing the rain drop.

But there are no worries on what or who to watch, you will have 24/7 coverage. So if you don’t like one prediction, just change the channel.

If you don’t want the “Hype”, I’d recommend “Max Velocity Weather”. You can watch him on You Tube.

I look at the weather forecast the way I watch predictions for who’s going to win the Super Bowl. The odds from some sources are better than others. I miss Truc.

There isn’t any “correct” or “incorrect”. There are really only probability distributions derived from numerical solution of the N-S equations. Chaos theory applies to the atmosphere so there are predictability limits. People want black and white answers but those don’t typically exist with complex systems.

No, there isn’t any guess work. There are sometimes many possible outcomes and probabilities are typically assigned to the outcomes. Do you ever notice the cone that expands with time around the forecasted hurricane tracks? That is a probability distribution.

Meteorology is educated guesswork. It is what it is. What will be will be.

Rock. Weather Rock. If it moves it’s windy, if it’s wet it’s raining.

Dave Towle at WVLG is the most trusted and common sense forecaster in The Villages. His interpretation of the weather data is spot on and has been doing so for 8 years in The Villages.

I watch FOX Local on Fox35...we have DirecTv so not sure what other sites share. Noah Bergren in my opinion is knowledgable and isn't given to a lot of hype. We were here for Irma and I'd have to say the anxiety levels there were high as it was slow, very slow, moving. Her "eye" went straight up the state. We live between the "6's"---never lost electricity (though it could happen). I expect we might not receive t.v. programs so hopefully the radio stations will inform us. Just keep calm....this one is new for all of us....even the ones who've lived here a long time.

Denis Phillips out of Tampa. Best metrologist I've seen. Only gives facts and not hype. I don't trust the weather channel. Denis goes live on both Facebook and YouTube nightly. He also constantly updates on Facebook.

I watch who has the largest staff, most technology, best access, largest on the ground crews reporting on site and work directly with NOAA. The Weather Channel.

Definitely watch The Weather Channel. They are the “paid” experts with all the latest data. Dr. Greg Postel has the latest data and Jim Cantore years of experience. That said, the exact track of Milton will not be known until a few hours before landfall. I also watch the local channels and meteorologists locally in Orlando. All of these professionals I believe do the best they can with the various weather models and data that is available. Let’s face it “mother nature” is incredibly independent and “she” is a difficult “act” to follow.

If I recall correctly, Tony Mainolfi on WESH was the first to predict that hurricane Irma would come up the center of the state.

I do remember that and I like Tony, but in that case he also predicted that it would remain a Cat 4 all the way through, which was ridiculous. By the time it reached TV latitude, it was barely a Cat 1.

That prediction was fear mongering and lowered my opinion of him.

Wherever you can find Bryan Norcross. He is without a doubt the most calming, accurate, and professional weatherman i have ever seen. Bryan talked the entire night during hurricane Andrew down in south Fl. It was the scariest storm i have ever been in and we didn't even get the worst of it. You could hear the train whistle at the front door from the wind. We are native Floridians and can tell you from experience over our many hurricane adventures that Bryan will be straight forward and not sensationalize anything. I believe he works for fox weather now.

The Villages is so large now you can have a CAT1 on 441 and a CAT7 on the southern end. I have had over an inch of rain on my rain gauge at my house and it never even drizzled 4 miles away at LSL. Even the "HyperLocal/MicroLocal etc etc" weather reports are barely ever correct.

That being said, I find Tony Mainolfi on WESH the most knowledgeable for general predictions. As for Uncle Milton, (he'll be teased forever) as the storms usually do they always seem move further away from The Villages as they approach the state so hopefully Uncle Milton will not be nearly as bad FOR HERE as originally predicted.

Listen/watch WESH in Orlando. Only problem is that the major networks start 24/7 coverage too early. None of the Orlando networks had the 6:30 news on Monday night. Nothing new happened during that time and the NHC does not make announcements during that time. Bet the National New had more broad news about the hurricane during those 30 minutes.

They are all singing from the same sheet of music.

Maybe a little less drama with local channels vs. the Weather Channel.
