View Full Version : Canvas cover on birdcage - does color choice make a difference?

With the sunbrella coverings that some have on the top of the birdcage, does the color choice impact the temperature in the shading it offers? In other words, is a lighter color in the spectrum better or a darker one? I've seen some that are black and wondered if that held heat more or offered more true shading and cooler feel than a lighter sunbrella color. Thanks.

Our original cover was Sunbrella canvas and in a lighter red color. Over the years, it developed a number of unsightly black stains from mold and algae that begin to grow in the fabric. If they clean it, it weakens the fabric and lowers the water repellancy.

We just had our cover redone (1,000+ sq ft), and used a new vinyl covering they have as opposed to the Sunbrella. Same price, but no pores for mold or algae to adhere to, and 100% waterproof (unlike Sunbrella). I got the new cover in black. No difference in temperature from the lighter red throughout the summer, and it looks great. Hope that helps!

Thanks PoolBrews, I'll check into that as well. Who did you use for the project?

Sunshine Awnings is the only place that actually does these. Anyone else claiming they do them are subcontracting Sunshine to do the work, then adding in their cut.
