I can't reach anyone to fix my Mom's mailbox lock in Lady Lake, Carvello Drive.

The key goes in a little then is blocked by something.

Talk with the mail workers inside your postal station, they will know what to do for you.

The cheapest way to go is to go to the your post office and buy a new lock, which will come with 3 new keys. It will cost about $35, much cheaper than a locksmith.

I sense you may not be in The Villages. If so, have your mom ask a neighbor to check with the person at her station how to get the lock fixed.
That 3888 is the main post office servicing her area. It’s a shame they cannot answer the phone.

I don't think there are any mail workers who sit inside this bank of mailboxes so she's having trouble getting help. She's moving soon so I might just have her forward her mail to me.

We’ve had the same issue with catalogs. If the postal worker pushes all the mail towards the front door (of your box) the locking mechanism gets blocked and does not turn.

Leave a note taped to the door of the postal station. Given them your box #. All they need to do is move the mail towards the back of your box.

Mail should not stop key from fully entering the lock. Maybe someone broke their key off thinking this was their box

Try some graphite lubricant in the lock and on the key then work the key in and out and try turning it. I bet it opens for you.

Happened to me also....look at the key by laying it on a flat surface...mine was slightly bent...once I flattened in a vise, it slide right in

If you live in The Villages, go to the Lady Lake post office (it’s the one servicing our area) and purchase a new lock. You’ll receive 1 or 2 new keys and then 3-4 days later, the lock will be changed.

We had to go through this process when or mail box key when our lock became inoperable.

Eventually, you will get 3 keys for a new lock.

But, before buying a new lock, you should first try to repair the lock with a lock lubricant, and also get a postal worker to verify that the box is not jammed with excess mail.

This happens when there's gunk inside the lock. I sprayed graphite onto the key and into the key hole a couple of times and it worked great after that and over a year later still does. I've had my same lock and key for 23 years. It's just gunked up inside. Try it, it works.

There aren't any maill workers who sit inside the mailbox house. Your mother should ask some neighbors when they think the workers are there. The workers arrive, dispense the mail & leave. But many neighbors are surpisingly good at knowing when your postal has the workers available. When the workers are there, ask someone who has opened their box if you/or your mother can call in through the open box. Just say Hello, hello? & when they respond tell them your situation. The solution may be any one of those suggested: jammed mail, lock needs lubrication, lock needs to be replaced. In the meantime the worker will hand your mother her accumulated mail.

Good Luck
