For those that have had a total knee replacement in this area, were you happy with your surgeon? If so, who was it? Did you have any surprises from your expectations?

I was in such pain that bowling and gold were out. My doctor got me a DONJOY top of the line metal jointed knee brace, and pain is now zero, no injections or other treatments. This was through Florida Muskeleto Insitute, Dr O. I am sure i will need the replacement at some point as I am losing the cartlidge but for the time being this is working great.

Tinker, don't keep putting it off. The older you get the more difficult doing rehab and healing.

2 Doctors told me I was not ready for knee replacement, so the brace is the way to go until i get some additional deterioration but thank you for caring.

I recommend Dr. Jon Radnothy at AdventHealth/Waterman. He does a lot of knees and hips and has a high reputation for his work.

Both of my knees done by Dr. Duke in Ocala. Very pleased.
Dr. Duke was indeed wonderful, but is now retired due to his own medical conditions. He's doing fine now.
Dr Locker is everyone's absolute favorite at the Orthopaedic Institute in Ocala.
He began the Practice years ago and actually did more surguries power year than Dr. Duke. He's the Medical Director there.
A lot of folks from The Villages go to the Ortho Institute in Ocala to get their knee surgeries done right.
I hand heard nothing but EXCELLENT reports about both Duke and Locker. Steller careers, both.

Family members and friends who used Dr. Locker had no problem w/ infection (or pain -post surgury).
Always INQUIRE about their post surgury infection ratios! Should be excellent, very, very low incidences.
You'd be Discharged same day from the Ortho Institute Surg Center. No Pain due to a 72 hour pain blocker, then my family reported no pain at all.
Most people have trouble with sleeping at night, getting comfortable. Recliners and TV, unless you want to take the pain pills.
Can elect to have the surgery at Ocala West Hospital and you'll be released the same day too, but it takes a lot longer, due to hospital hoops on discharge procedures.
Excellent anestheologist at the State of the Art Surgery Center, which is located right next to the very large Ortho Institute.
I used to live in Ocala and many Pickleball, Softball, weekend warrior Villagers will tell you that's where they SMH and still go.
Surgery is fast... but you'll be there about 6 hours. He does a fabulous incision... barely be able to see in 6 mos., won't be left with the scissor scar!
Cortesone injections work for awhile, but eventually, it's time.
Good luck.

Dr Petrie, Rothman Orthopedics Orlando the very best. He did a second surgery on my hubby knee when no other doctor around the villages would touch it. So grateful to him, hubby said it was the easiest knee surgery to heal.

Dinh at Optimotion. Surgery is done in Orlando. If you request it, all post-op checkups can be done locally. Optimotion has an office on 44E between Buena Vista and Morse. Recovery for me was 6 weeks on each knee, done 3 months apart. I was in otherwise good physical shape at the time of surgery. The incision is lateral. Nobody else does that. The advantage is that there is no incision through the quadriceps. Walking the same day (with a walker). They insist on using a walker for the initial few days because the internal anesthetic reduces nerve signals that you normally use for balance.
The most important thing is doing the full rehabilitation daily post surgery.

I’ve had both knees done 10+ years ago with Stryker Mako partial replacements and I highly recommend at least talking to a surgeon that does Makoplasty robotic-assisted surgery. I see Dr. Derrick Farr at Twin Palms Orthopedics in Ocala. A person is a candidate if they have 1 or 2 knee compartment issues any more, they do a full knee.
I still have about 80% of the bone in my knees as well as all the ligaments giving me a more natural fee keep all the flexibility and range of motion I had before surgery. They also did my 2nd knee without full anesthesia. I was given proposal and a spinal block…

Janie - I have read about that but been curious; doesn't leaving some of the components allow for future injuries to those ligaments or arthritis developing in some of the bones remaining if it was not a total knee replacement?

Dr. Stephen Nguyen. Lateral approach.(side incision). Less bleeding during surgery, no need to cut up the quad muscle, less pain and faster recovery. He’s done over 12,000 knee replacement surgeries.

Getting mine done on Nov 19 in Tampa.PM me if you are more interested. BTW, do not prolong the surgery. Better young than older and why suffer needlessly.

He uses a knee he designed and is sold by Zimmer Bionics. It is the highest used the world. I use FOI for several issues, they have replaced both hips, and 6 discs in my back, done 2 rota rooter procedures on my back. I googled Dr Lyons and the awards, and accomplishments are unreal like. He is also a assistant professor and FSU school of medicine. BTW if you ever want to know if a Dr is and good, just ask a lawyer for they sue the dr types like Morgan and Morgan or Dan ??

I used Dr. Seibur of Reconstructive Orthopedics of Ocala , he did a great job. He had to remove the bad replacement done by Dr. Oliverre and instead of 2 hours it took him 4 hours. He said my knee was a mess. The job done by Dr. O was glued on instead of using more permanent pins and separated from the bone and I was in pain for 15 months all the while Dr. O said he did not know what was wrong?????

I have had one knee done by Dr. Duke, and the other by Dr. Nguyen. In short, a night and day difference. No complaints at all about Dr. Duke. But he used "conventional" method. Slices thru all muscles and works from the front. Dr. Nguyen (and his trainees) work from the side and under the muscles. Conventional surgery was three months of hell rehab. With side surgery, I was bowling in three weeks. Conventional surgery rehab started with three days of simply laying a handkerchief flat on the floor and trying to put foot on it without moving it. Dr. Nguyen works under all muscles, from side, and only discomfort comes in second week, when pain inhibitors wear off, there is a "pulled muscle" like soreness for a couple days. Conventional method called for three night hospital stay. Side method was an outpatient procedure! Send me a PM and would be glad to discuss further.

If you’re willing to drive to Fort Lauderdale, I had the best guy in the world!! Had replaced Monday and walking with a walker a few hours later. Went home with a walker Tuesday & used Wednesday, switched to a cane Thursday and Friday and then threw the cane away Saturday and went out in the woods and shot sporting clays!!! Drove myself to work the next day, but probably wasn’t supposed to . 😂
Same result with my other knee three years later.
Dr William Burke. He only swaps out hips and knees he does no other surgery at all.

Dr Sergio Martinez.
Could not have gone better.
Full knee replacement, zero pain, zero issues. I do 100 squats a day, even surprised the doctor.
45 years of knee problems…….Gone!

Not that I know of, the knee and leg had to be measured to get the correct size. Send me your email BY PM, and I will send you a photo of the unit. I will also see if I can find the paperwork to see if there is a model number.

This appears to be a Donjoy model DonJoy Armor Knee Brace, I included the link below, as these are sold by size and there is a lot more info there.
Here is a link to a possible supplier:
https://www.rehab-store.com/p-donjoy-acl-fourcepoint-armor-action.html?msclkid=4ab49a66548e1291f8f6fd79d12cc0 67&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Orthopedics%20Shopping&utm_term=4585238373029385&utm_content=Hinged%20Knee%20Braces
I got mine through the doctor and Medicare, so my cost was around $100 as I had not met the deductible yet.

Do you know if he does a lateral approach, or cuts in the front through the muscles? The doctors at Optimotion use the lateral approach, which is supposedly a much faster recovery. I’m facing a replacement soon after putting it off for 10+ years. Honestly dreading it.

Just X rays so far, and since pain is now zero to 1 i am assuming an MRI is nor warranted.
