I was at a small consignment shop, The Friday Barn, only open on Fridays and Saturdays, and I got there around 10 AM this morning, Pepperell MA. The elderly owner was starting the wood fire in the pot bellied stove, and we chatted, . . about the store, the contents, etc, and then he mentioned that his brother starred on "This Old House", his brother is Tommy Silva, the master carpenter.

His only exclamation was "I am NO carpenter!"

Damn, if he didn't look like an older Tommy as we see on TV.

He mentioned this very elderly man who always stops by. . chat with him to find that he was a Vietnam draft dodger who enlisted in the USCG, and went to Antartica from Salem MA on a search and rescue mission. . WOW! not a normal sea voyage for a USCG seaman.

Meeting these two people just made my day, pays to just chat up your neighbors and those you meet anywhere just for the stories. .

not important, just find it fascinating who one can meet in the retired world.

Very cool! I remember watching This Old House on PBS with my parents in the 80's. Back when it was one episode a week or whatever. It couldn't be binge-watched. I remember "Nahrm" the carpenter whose name was really Norm. Of course, everyone remembers Bob Vila. Great show, the way-ahead-of-its-time HGTV. Thanks for the memory.
