Uber and Lyft availability

Are there a lot of Uber and Lyft drivers around when the entertainment finishes in the square for the evening or when establishments stay open past 9 or10?
Is that ever a problem?

Something I do when I have these questions: Get on the app and set up a ride to see what the cost will be.

You don't need to be in the Villages to use the Uber app to set up a ride from Brownwood to a home in the Villages. Right now if I want an Uber from Sawgrass to Brownwood it will cost me $30 and I would have to wait over 15 minutes for the car to arrive. It is easy enough for you to try the same thing around 9PM tonight to see what it would take to get home.

I am semi-retired and used to enjoy driving here and there for Uber when I lived in Wyoming. It was not terribly busy in the isolated town of Casper.

I tried it here recently and, thanks to being financially savvy, it was a non-starter. Florida has fees galore and Uber takes 21%. Traffic makes pickups (empty car with no pay) way too long. You make less than minimum wage after gas costs and, even more so, when considering wear and tear. You’re burning up your vehicle for peanuts. The worst part? Floridians don’t tip. Same vehicle and level of service got me 30-35% in tips in Wyoming. In Florida I averaged 5-10% the four days I drove. They killed the cab drivers and now the Uber drivers are being flat-out abused. Laws should be passed.

I looked into the prices for a couple different locations on both Uber & Lyft some time ago. We were considering eliminating our automobile expense by using Uber/Lyft for everyday transportation. You can actually schedule a ride PRIOR to the date and time you are needing the service and get a price. When we actually needed the ride while in New Orleans, at the actual time, it was canceled multiple times and took us quite a while to actually get a driver to confirm. Little too pricy for us! Good luck!

I use Uber a lot up in Maryland. Always tip at least 20%. Everybody needs to make a buck...

- The wages of the worker ought to be included in the price of the product just as they are for a can of beans, a television, a new car, or a home.
- Does the driver really want me to leave a 20% tip on a $9 ride?
- If there are few drivers available and the same $9 ride I took earlier now costs $30, what am I receiving that is worth an extra $4 in tips?

We were just in New Orleans and used Uber exclusively for 4 days. No problem getting picked up or dropped off. Rides came within minutes of our request. We always tip the drivers. Cars were clean and drivers nice. We even used Uber Eats once to bring a battery for our car remote to the hotel. Again, no issues.

The price is divided between Uber and the driver. The driver gets ALL the tip.

Just a tip if you call for a Uber while in the confines of Sumter County you will endure a surge charge no matter what time of the day it is.

Initiating your trip from Lake or Marion is always cheaper.

I don't know the reason why but I would love to know why.

The value you receive is you have the service....when the drivers don't make the wage they need they stop driving and we are left without service. Then we complain there is no service. Same reason stores go out of business.....we are responsible. Then we complain there aren't any stores as we merrily buy online.

While getting a ride from MCO back to TV, discussed Uber an Lyft with the driver, Driver told us that there are not many Uber and Lyft drivers in TV because most of the requested rides were short and not worth their time and money for short rides and the client hardly tipped them.
