I went to a master gardener presentation and was told it is better for the palms to NOT trim them. Ours are now so tall that a man lift is required, so I am saving hundreds of dollars per year. I started the natural program about 2 years ago, and just pickup the fronds as they fall off.

There are different kinds of palms. What do you do when the seed pods open and drop hundreds of one inch seeds on your lawn and driveway. The Villages has planted Bearded Palms which don't need to be trimmed. The wind takes care of the fronds. Some people have Queen Palms, hence the seed pods. I get my palm trimmed about 4 times a year.

Good point, ours are Sylvester's and must be male, no seed pods.

As a 40+ year landscape architect, I can tell you that although most companies will gladly take off as much as you'd like, or even give them a "hurricane cut, "pruning anything other than dead brown fronds is NOT recommended. Removing green fronds takes away a substantial amount of the palm's food production, and can eventually kill the palm. Yellowing fronds are a sign of nutrient deficiency, which will just transfer to the next healthy fronds, when you cut the yellow ones off. In addition, pruning with tools that have not been sterilized can spread diseases from palm to palm. You can safely remove flowers and fruit, if the mess is your issue. I would suggest reading this information from the University of Florida: ENH1182/EP443: Pruning Palms (https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/EP443)
