Can anyone recommend a good solar tube company? I called the Solar Guys to get an estimate and the gentleman said there is a charge to come out the house.

The Solar Guys added a solar tube when they did my roof... very good job on both.

I suspect that if you purchase from them the cost for the estimate will be removed.

I think there is a misunderstanding as we offer free consults on new installs. Can you please message me your contact info?

Make sure you watch the video of a tube full of water with hurricane weather.

I have an existing solatube from you and it's yellowing. I was quoted $199 to come out to the house.

Yes repairs, if outside of warranty, do have a service fee. However, that fee is added back in to any repairs we would perform. If you message me your contact info I can pull up your account come up with some options.

The Solar Guys do the best work. That’s important when it some to sealing a hole in your roof so it doesn’t leak in. A heavy rain. With their reputation, it’s certainly fair to charge for an estimate, as they are busy and charge a fair price for installation. Charging for an estimate lets them keep down the price of installation. “Free estimates” have to make up their money somewhere, and it’s usually a higher installation charge or a lower quality installation. The Solar Guy who installed my tubes had installed a couple thousand in The Villages. He knows what he’s doing.
As with headlight covers in cars, the plastic cover eventually gets yellowish and cloudy from sun damage. Sometimes the Solar Guys can just replace that plastic, which is much cheaper than a new tube and helps a lot, letting in more light. Sometimes their current product has a more reflective interior surface, also bringing in more light. Replacing a tube is usually cheaper than a new one because there is no need to drill new holes.

Thanks for the clarification. I would never pay any contractor for a quote. I don't care how good they are, quotes for new work should be free.

Make sure you watch the video of a tube full of water with hurricane weather.A roofer once told me the more penetrations you put in a roof the more chance of leaks (duh). Never understood the advantage of solar tubes? If I want sun I go outside if l want more light inside just hit a light switch.

I felt the same way you did until I had to move here and got a house with little natural light. Light switch light is just not the same as natural light. Solar Guys installed a solar tube and the difference was amazing! Solar Guys have the best tubes that give off the most light! I also like the soft nightlight.

The Solar Guys also do a great job replacing those old plastic skylights with Energy Star VELUX glass skylights thus reducing your heating and cooling bills.

One thing I noticed about most new homes is they do not put in overhead can lights in any rooms for lighting. We usually add those at some point. No worries about leaks.

The Solar Guys have installed Solatubes in both of our houses here in the Villages. From a customer satisfaction perspective, I give them a solid 10 out of 10. They don't really need to come to your home to give you a new installation quote...they'll do that over the phone. The tubes really do enhance the natural light, at least in our installations. And yes, the very soft night light feature is a bonus. We've never had a Solatube leak, even in torrential downpours. Their installers are professional, and are very good at what they do. So, yeah...I can give them my highest recommendation without reservation.

I have owned 5 new homes and one preowned home in the villages , I have installed the tubes in all of them, I’ve never had a problem , and for those who think just hitting a light switch is the same thing ,you are so very wrong .Solar Guys Rock

The house I bought doesn't get a lot of natural sunlight so I had solar guys come out and install a solar tube. They did a great job and were in and out quickly. It helped quite a bit. I eventually want four more but will have to wait because of the cost.
The one I got has a remote that closes a damper to kind of "shut it off". I'd probably skip that on the next ones as I've never used it.

We just had the Solar Guys install another tube in our home yesterday....no one had to come out to do an estimate.....we called, got the price, set up the appointment and install done within 7 days. Easy peasy.

We have used Solar Tube since about 1999 and have two units installed. They have been great to work with and are efficient and clean in doing their work. I would inquire of them to see if they charge for coming to your house is credited to the purchase, if you make one. We use them to replace our roof in 2019 and they replaced both of our Solar Tubes with upgrades designs. I highly recommend them.

The Solar Guys did three tubes for us. Love the tubes with the nite lite. The Villages is so spread out that they may need to recoup expenses. They are great to work with. BTW our battery operated nite lites are still working after 3-4 years. We expected 1.5 to 2 years before light/battery replacement.

We moved to TV 4 years ago and had the Solar Guys put 2 solar tubes in our house — one in a spot where there was a light and that solar tube has a light inside that we can use as night. They did a fantastic job.

We think solar tubes are great, free sunlight in the home without burning electricity is a wonderful idea. My wife’s indoor plants thrive under them. Just don’t put them in a bedroom unless you want to be woken up at sunrise or in a closet because the sun will bleach out the color of your clothes.
