View Full Version : Trade my electric cart for a Tesla

Even though my cart can go fast, I am having trouble keeping up with carts going close to 30. So, I have decided to sell my cart to purchase a Tesla that can go extremely fast if needed.

I have had fun driving golf carts around even though I don’t golf and have no interest at this time in playing that game. I do enjoy playing pickleball and do some walking with my wife. Riding in golf carts has been an experience. As my garage has no golf cart addition, I must let the cart go to make room for the new Tesla.

My wife will have her car and I will have the Tesla to experience the FSD aspect of being driven around by a computer. Having been a computer store owner in my past life, I look forward to working with the Tesla computer to experience something new in my life before I am gone. I will try it and can always sell the Tesla to then purchase a Joby electric vertical takeoff aircraft when available.

No problem, just keep it plugged in with an "extra" long extension cord.:jester:

You could probably fit a Fiat 500e on the MMPs :)

Or this...

The volocopter is really easy to fly...At least it is on MS Flight Simulator :)

You will LOVE your 2024 Model 3! We finally got ours a few months ago. Amazing. Our first EV. Everything about it is fantastic. Such a pleasure to drive around. Happy and safe driving to you…

At first I thought you were insinuating you were going to drive the Tesla on the cart path, LOL

Congrats! I hope you like it. My kids just bough a Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. It's a very, very nice vehicle.

When my wife's Acura MDX gives up the ghost, we're considering a Hybrid or maybe an electric.

But we'll still need something with the range to drive back to the DC area several times/year (new grandchild!)

Good for you. If we had a decent sized garage I’d be tempted to do the same thing. Keep the ‘24 RAV4 Limited Hibred and ditch the cart for an EV. Perhaps not a Tesla, maybe an Ionic.

One does not replace the other. You can’t drive the Tesla on the MMPs, so what you’re saying is you’re giving up using the MMPs. Personally the golf cart lifestyle is why we retired here, so we’d move before giving it up because the miserable heat/humidity isn’t worth it without the golf cart lifestyle.

Here's a thought; Sell your home and get one with enough room for two golf carts... (Don't spend that much on a Tesla and get a nice Hybrid car like we did , cheaper and has lots of gimmicks we NEVER use) and don't worry about being passed or going fast when you enjoy your new golf cart. I don't think you need an airplane. The secret to joy in living here is just enjoying stuff the WAY IT IS.

I found my model 3 just wasn't fast enough to keep up on the multi modal paths with these maniac golf car drivers. Hoping to upgrade to Plaid someday.

The neighbor has the Smart Fortwo car - not much bigger than a golf cart. I want an Arcimoto basically an enclosed (if you want) 3 wheel electric motorcycle. But what is your golf cart and what are you asking for it

Why worry about keeping up with other carts. You’re retired now….relax and enjoy the scenery.

You only live once so I enjoy trying different transportation modes of travel. I was a private pilot and owned several different aircraft both fast and slow in my 50 years of flying. My electric golf cart had air conditioning, heater, four seats, 40 plus miles of range on a charge and could be quickly sealed for different weather conditions. The golf car thing was fun but I am moving on. I will place a for sale ad today for it in the classified section.

We have a Honda 2020 Hybrid CR-V that my wife will continue to drive. I can use my Tesla to get to all of the locations plus many, many more locations that a golf cart could not take me to. Remember, I don’t play golf. With 340 plus miles of range on a charge, I find that I will only need to charge the Tesla for my usual Village travels once a week in my garage.

While not for everyone, it’s something that I look forward to using until the next interesting mode of transportation comes along. So, I don’t dislike golf cart traveling but I now want to try something different and a Tesla is different. I am enjoying my new 2024 Tesla M3 AWD long range that cost me $34,000!

Wow! I have been looking at this thing for over an hour now. They are VERY FAR along on this and are shipping out 2000 units already. Several videos are out that are really interesting. There are 40,000 people on the waiting list so far, but at 80/per day they could do 20,000+ per year. About $30k for 400 mile/day battery size is admirable. SUPER SMART engineering.

Thanks for posting this!!:coolsmiley:

At the risk of being philosophical, a well lived life is about embracing constant change. Bravo for getting the Tesla. Have fun with it. And if you tire of it, well then get another golf cart, or something else.

Living in the village most have a few things in common. Doing okay financially; Living is small houses with not much storage space; Not too much time left on this earth. To me that means we should buy things that are fun, and rid of things we don't have space for. The Tesla checks the boxes.

This is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of what i have been saying. The Villages Police NEED to ticket ANY golf car going over 25 MPH. The reckless SPEEDING of about 30% of the golf car drivers is going to cause accidents with innocent pedestrians. From time to time we see pictures of accidents involving golf cars and drunken drivers - drinking and speeding.
.........The Villages PRETENDS to be better than this, but the reality is that the Police do NOT ticket golf cars enough to CONTAIN their dangerous SPEEDING.

I’ve put many miles on golf carts in my 18 plus years in TV. Yes, I have seen a lot. Do you know or do you care, there have been a dozen (12) golf cart fatalities in The Villages. That was the number I saw a year or so ago. I think on TOTV and most, if not all, were not because of speeding. Many fatalities and serious injuries could be avoided if wearing seat belts were required. The exception, (for obvious reasons) while actually playing golf on a golf course. I remember well when seat belts were first required in a car. There was no small uproar! It’s awful when government wants to protect us from ourselves. I agree. Not to worry it ain’t going to happen here. Fore…

The golf cart I am selling has the harness seat belts that I would always use when driving this cart. Pictures are in classified listing under used golf carts for sale.

I kept a cart because i didn't like getting my car sweaty after pickleball. I found the cart rides too long so i switched to a small motorcycle. It's a great way to cool off.

Last month when still in massachusetts, a pickleballer friend, retired engineer, gave me a ride around our small town in his Tesla with optional full self drive. Loved it, worked great. Elon's sense of humor.....choices on touch screen include fireplace flames which turn heater same time, also sound effects like making the car fart. If we has solar panels I would already have bought one.

I do now use a special seat cover for the ride back after playing pickleball. :icon_wink:

The last thing TV needs is more police. What we need is people that can think. From reading all these threads on golf cars going fast/slow, people typing on a tablet while driving etc, we NEED more people with more brains.

I own an Ioniq 6; I love the car and it's great for local driving.
I drove to New York last month and even though I did my homework the infrastructure is not there yet.
I believe EVs are the way of the future, but when it comes to long drives, they're still years away.

We don't need more police?
The police (sheriff dept) is so busy investigating accidents and directing traffic that they don't have time to issue citations for people asking for it.

New sheriff. I think we need to demand safer roads from morons driving like maniacs, swooping thru traffic circles, weaving in and out of traffic, weaving thru crosswalks to miss pedestrians, grossly exceeding the speed limits, running stop signs like they are not even there.

And then there is the "contractor" trucks with trailers driving like maniacs. Grass guys?
Most of these - don't even have insurance.
And why? Because they see us doing it.

I don't understand the aversion to Police - especially at our advanced retirement age. Older people can be thought of as "easy marks" by crooks. So, logically a retirement community should have more Police. And a retirement community should be favorable to Police protection. Maybe when we were all TEENAGERS, we partied and engaged in WILD behavior where we wanted to avoid Police, but we are now (supposedly) more stable and should welcome the sight of Police protecting our property and neighborhoods.
........many people purposefully purchased homes in The Villages under the EXPECTATION that burglary, speeding, and other crimes would be at a minimum.
......SPEEDING causes accidents and is a CRIME. We are RETIRED so speeding is UNNECESSARY.

I tend to agree with that post. There is a speeding problem where there does NOT need to be one. The streets are crowded in the winter season, so people should SLOW DOWN and drive DEFENSIVELY.
