So many brands, so many options -- and we have our preference - BUT - we would like a fridge that is QUIET!

If you own such an appliance, what brand, what type (side by side v french door v traditional freezer on top, etc)

AND does it have water and ice in the door -- or no?

Thank you in advance!

We have a 11 year old Whirlpool, French door with bottom freezer, and the only thing you hear is the ice dropping and if you are in the kitchen the water running for refilling the ice cube trays. I have never heard the compressor.

We have a 3 year old Whirlpool French door, bottom freezer that is very noisy. When the cooling cycle starts, there is a sound like a popping or gurgling that seems to go on forever. Even after the compressor stops the noise continues for several minutes. I’d love to find something quieter myself.

We have a builder installed Whirlpool and its noisy as a roller coaster. We’re in a spec house, moved in early 2019. Seems like it’s ALWAYS on – cooling, defrosting or whatever. It’s a 4 drawer with French drawers, a freezer drawer & another drawer in the middle that’s very handy. It’s model WRX 735SDHZ01, couldn’t find any other name on it & instruction booklet doesn’t have any names for it. Hope you don’t buy this one or its descendants. PLease let us know what you finally get & if it's quite.

1st time I have heard of a sound complaint about a refrigerator. Have a 4 year old Bosch counter depth. Very quiet(only hear ice falling) and have never had a problem. No ice/water in door. Had a Whirlpool which was subject to a class action suit involving water thru the door and a Kitchenaid. Both had water/ice problems with the door ice/water. Love the counter depth. Has a built in look without the Sub Zero price

I forgot to add consumer reports will probably have suitable sound ratings for refrigerators.

We have a KitchenAid model. Not sure what style it is. It has two side by side doors on top. Two side by side drawers in the middle and a large freezer drawer on the bottom. The only sounds it makes is the ice dropping and to a lesser degree the ice maker refilling with water. You can’t hear the compressor or fans running at all.

LG French door has been running very quiet now for 12 years. You do hear the ice drop and that is the only sound.

If my wife and I wanted to discourage anyone from hanging around the house when we were renting, we put the washing machine, dishwasher, dryer, then turned on the ice maker, all at the same time.
We were under the impression Americans just loved noisy appliances.
In all our twenty years overwintering in TV, never heard a quiet appliance.

Same here with the ice maker dropping ice and the water filling but that's all the noise our GE Profile makes. The compressor is silent. The fridge is at least 11 years old. It was in our home when we purchased in 2009. It has French doors and bottom freezer.

We have a new build house. All the appliances are GE, and very quiet. The fridge is a base model side by side. Unless the door open times out and chimes we never know its running. The dishwasher we don’t even know when it’s running unless it chimes when starting or it’s finished. I’d say that’s a win win.

We have a French door LG that is probably 5+ years old & it is very quiet (now) but was extremely fussy about being level. Also, sites like this may offer helpful information: The 10 Quietest Refrigerators Currently On The Market | ChatterSource (https://www.chattersource.com/quiet-refrigerator/)

Just do not buy Samsung. Read the class action lawsuit about it.

We have a Thor, counter depth, water and ice in door, freezer on the bottom, 2 drawers. It’s very quiet, only hear the ice dropping and once in awhile you will hear the water running but not often. We love it!

We just purchased one from Lowe’s and we are very pleased with it. In my opinion it is quiet. Good luck!

A lot depends on what is under the fridge. Vibration noise can be dampened with LVP vs Ceramic Tile, wood, or even some laminates. We have a Cafe brand fridge in our kitchen and it is totally quiet.

Go online and read the tests at Consumers Reports. For appliances, their tests and ratings are the gold standard.

We just bought 2 weeks ago from Lowes (Black Friday sale) an LG bottom freezer to replace the builder GE. It is very quiet and way more room inside.

You are lucky if yours does not leak onto the floor. It’s a recurring problem with GE refrigerators.

Ours was really quiet for awhile and then not so much. I just pulled it out from the wall and cleaned out underneath. It wasn’t too bad, but it is the compressor making all this weird noises.

I can't comment on which particular units are quiet, but highly suggest you check out Youtube and watch the videos with service repair techs talking about the issues with ice/water through the door models. Simply, their takes are that such "features" work against overall refrigerator design.

Our home (purchased two years ago) came with a new refrigerator with the ice/water through the door. After one year of the unit dropping cubes on the floor every few days (ice that didn't clear the opening), we replaced it with a french door, bottom freezer/ice maker unit.

We have a new LG French door, 27 cu. ft. refrigerator that is very quiet. It has ice and water in the door and also ice storage in the freezer compartment. The only thing we hear is ice dropping on occasion. It is very roomy as the ice maker is in the door and not in the refrigerator compartment. We bought it at Best Buy where we have gotten all of our appliances.

Walking through Lowe’s, it appears your design is anything but normal. “Classic “ maybe, but in today’s world it is no longer normal! 😁

Avoid Whirlpool for many reasons, the worst being their terrible customer service.

We have a GE Cafe counter-depth French Door refrigerator with water and ice in the door. It is extremely quiet though you can hear the muffled sound of ice dropping. There is LED lighting on the entire back wall making it seamless to see contents of the refrigerator. The ice maker is on the inside of the door not taking up space in the refrigerator itself. It has a lower horizontal drawer above the freezer that can be used as a chiller for snacks/wine, additional refrigerator space or as a soft-freeze freezer. Yes, it was expensive but well worth the price. Model # CXE22DP2PES1.

We were renting.
Had we purchased, most of the white goods would have been the first things at the end of the drive for scrap.

Can’t believe that no one has mentioned Bosch, although pricey it’s the very best refrigerator I have ever owned. It’s a French door, freezer on bottom, water and ice available on left side door.
It is incredibly quiet, no problems whatsoever up to now….you can barely hear it when it turns on!

Great question. Very helpful responses.

We have a Whirlpool. Freezer left, frig right. Almost constant noise. Loud ice drops. Ice maker is horrible all around.
