Smart thermostat recommendations

I have a top of line Ecobee smart thermostat. When I installed it 2 years ago, I loved it, especially being able to control remotely. However, one day it got all messed up. (Maybe storm damage?

After spending many hours trying to reset it, and hours with their help line (very polite and patient and easy to understand) I give up!!!

I want to buy a very basic smart thermostat that is not programmable, but easy to control temperature remotely.

If you know of such a thing, would you please let me know?

When we were having a new air conditioner installed in our house in Virginia, the sales person wanted to install a new modern thermostat to replace our old crude one. He said the old one did not even show the correct temperature.

I said, "The old one is fine. If my ass is cold, I set the thermostat higher. If my ass is hot, I set it lower. That is all I need."

I have an ecobee, the best thing to do to get around the programs messing with the temp. is to set the heat low and ac high for each program and the thermostat is then running through the programs without changing anything same as no programs. When I moved into our home I had to do a reset on the thermostat to get connected to WIFI. I am suprised your resetting it did not work?

Ecobee Lite.

"Top of the line" has issues..............no need to spend extra $$.

We recently bought a home with an Ecobee and all was well. One day the electricity went out for a few minutes and it lost the actual time of day so it runs when it shouldn't, etc. I have no idea how to reset the time and don't even understand the online instructions. I will replace it with a simple to use, set it and forget it thermostat.

I ordered an ecobee lite. I read reviews and hope that the lite will be easier to operate.

The ecobee is the best, don’t get the lite version, learn a couple of things about new technology and you will go far.
As far as 1 poster above, if you lost power and now the time is wrong, you probably lost internet connectivity to the ecobee, not a big deal. Go into the ecobee and see what WiFi name it’s using. If it doesn’t have 1, just setup WiFi connection again and your time will be back. Then make sure your other settings are intact.
Now if ecobee does show a WiFi name, then take your iPhone,iPad, or laptop and go into settings/wifi and connect to that WiFi name. If you don’t see that name, then your router isn’t broadcasting that name after the power outage and your going to either have to reboot the router and if that doesn’t work, reconfigure that WiFi from the router.
All of this is very easy.

Ecobee Lite works like a champ. I don’t use the program settings. I just use manual hold. Old school I know, but it has been working flawlessly.

I ordered an ecobee lite. I read reviews and hope that the lite will be easier to operate.
You stuck with Ecobee? It appears they are mostly all the same with just some added features, good luck.

I have an Ecobee Lite here and when I went form the old style to digital up north, I used Ecobee Lite. Stupidly simple to install, if yours is fried, just go by a new one (maybe cheaper version like the Lite). They just snap on and off the base. Assuming it's the same base, it's a 30 sec fix. As for setting, I learned from the company down here when we did the Orientation. Delete all the program times, don't need all the preprogrammed times, don't need a password since it's on your private home network; instead set a low temp and high temp for "Away" and "Home". That way if you're home and want to adjust it on any day just hit the temp +/-.

I use the software app on my cell phone for setup. Usually tech support can access the phone app. Did you call them?

If your house gets out of the set ranges it sends you a text message.....no wifi needed. So if you are a snowbird, you can put your internet on seasonal discount. If your home is out of ranges down here in TV, then something is wrong and you should appear to see what has happened. Don't need fancy thermostat.

Really? It couldn’t be easier. You can do it on your phone. I love mine!
