Back in October, we recieved the dreaded "We're cancelling your home insurance" letter. Our insurance renews mid February...
We called TV Insurance to see what are options were and they gave us an appointment for a phone consultation mid-December, since any offers were only good for 30 days.
On Wednesday, we received a 2nd letter, rescinding the original cancellation. Telling us our insurance will, in fact, remain in effect.
We'll call next week to confirm and see if they can tell us what our new rate will be, but it was certainly a surprise to get that letter...

Essentially, since the governor declared Sumter County a disaster area, insurance companies were not permitted to drop anyone during a certain period. But fair warning, my premium was $2001, the renewed rate would be $3845. Needless to say I have secured other homeowner's insurance for $2002, a whopping $1 increase.
This was on top of them sending an adjuster and declaring my $35,000 in damages was only $7,000. My public adjuster estimated $78,000, which is just as bad the other way. Now they will dance

The same thing happened to us with Farmers. Our policy with them expires tomorrow at midnight. They gave us several non renewal notices and then last week sent us a letter stating they had to renew us for another year because of an emergency declaration from DeSantis.
My feeling is thanks for nothing! Dump excellent policy holders who have never filed a claim, and then reluctantly send us a renewal notice at the 11th hour only because you were forced to, with the full intention of dumping us as soon as legally possible. No thanks, we have obviously already committed to a new insurance Company that wants our business, see ya!

Gov ordered all cancellations be rescinded due to hurricanes.

I looked on line at the status of our Progressive Insurance, and the current status is to non renew, when i t expires in May.
The local observed reasoning is non homesteads, ie, non Floridian owners, are dropped by Progressive.
I have a quote from Southern Oaks Insurance, for about the same price as progressive currently,, though he can't write a policy until after the new year when their rates go up for a new policy start within 30 days or so
Haven't decided until we explore more in January

Have to disagree. 6 owners on my block alone were dropped by Progressive---all full-time Florida residents, all with homeowner's exemptions.

Cancel them before they cancel you…
I use an independent insurance agent and switch every few years or at least check rates with my agent.

Ask for Sarah… she writes policies all over Florida. Office is in Lake Mary.
I a permanent resident of FL My home value is $400k with $1000 deductible with 2% for hurricane damage. I pay $1570 a year. No claims in FL, had 2 roofs in CO replaced due to hail damage…. Not sure if that followed me here.

Same here. Getting the 2nd notice that they were not dropping us after all only puts off the inevitable. We went with another company.

I too received a notice of cancellation a year or so ago and ended up getting Allstate - Castle Key inaurance. The Villages homeowners insurance then sent me a re-admission letter,. Which upset me further because The Villages insurer had no business canceling my insurance in the first place. I pay a lot more, but I'm tired of the games These insurance companies play. If that keeps happening, I'm just going to move out of Florida.

Despite the fact that "Flo" evidently hates Florida, Progressive continues to heavily advertise on television.Height of hypocrisy!

Allstate won’t be looking for homeowners market share in Florida and California, and will continue managing probable maximum loss (PML) and coastal exposure.
“But once you get away from that — really the rest of the country, particularly the middle part of the country — there’s real opportunity for us to continue to grow homeowners,

We just got off the phone for this same reason. We were told we were being reinstated because we have homeowners, auto and golf carts all bundled with them.
