If you don't need the Intuit credit then wait for the Amazon $10 gift card deal that comes around in late December every year instead, it will be the same price

Monday Sale on Amazon!!!
Apparently, TurboTax has discontinued the CD disc option for the program, starting this year. I always bought the discs for TurboTax Premier and TurboTax Business . Bummer.

No CD but when you register the product, you create an account where the software is stored to be downloaded again should it be needed. Can't get the image to post, but I have every year back to 2014 in my account. Including 2024 that I just got from Amazon and registered.

I haven't had convenient CD capabilities in over six years. I have a ten year old external CD drive but no idea if it still works.
For taxes, I save a copy of the return as a pdf file. I can review that whenever I need to and can print it if I ever have to. I also acquire pdf versions of any document I require for preparing my taxes and keep them alongside the return. I *should* be in good shape without needing the software again.
At the same time, I have a folder with the install files for all the previous versions of the tax preparation software. Since there are usually many updates to this software between the time I buy it in November/December and filing time in April, reinstalling the software will require the updates to be available on the developer's website. I assume the updates will be available but I've never tested that.

That is a big problem for folks living in the hill towns with no high speed internet access at their homes (satellite doesn’t solve the problem, very slow, expensive, data capped, and weather sensitive). We had that problem for many years at our northern home until Comcast finally ran a cable down our long and sparsely populated dirt road thanks to state subsidies to get rural areas connected. For a couple years I was forced to disconnect my desktop MAC and bring it to a friends house, with high speed internet access, so I could download the software. Obviously, e-filling was out of the question.
It amazes me that in 1934 The Telecommunications Act forced universal land line phone service to all since it was deemed an essential service, yet internet access doesn’t fall under the same umbrella. Just goes to show what kind of lobbying power the likes of Comcast have these days.

If you ever need to file an amended return, you will need the software program and the program tax return file, both for that tax year. The pdf file will not work. Also, an earlier or later version of the program will not work. Usually, amended returns can be filed within 3 years after the original return was due. That is why it is important to keep the software program and the tax return file for 3 years.

I assume paper filing is still allowed though maybe not.
I have the install files back to 2012.... I think I'm good.

Paper filing is still allowed, but if you need to do an amended return, using the TurboTax program makes it much easier.

For those of you who are Fidelity Investments account holders, depending on the type of account(s) you have, you may receive access to Turbo Tax at no cost. It’s probably too early for it to be available yet on their website, the link to TT normally appears on your account “Summary” webpage.
