Watched a few episodes during covid, enjoyed them but thought they were too long.
We watch Elsbeth from time to time and she reminds me of him.

I agree. I think Elsbeth is trying to copy Columbo, but Columbo was way better.

Two quirky guys: Columbo and Monk. I liked Monk a lot better.

FYI, Monk had a medical condition called obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). By obsessing on details and small things, he was able to solve crimes better than an average detective. Columbo was just very smart.

I have seen all the Monk episodes. Unfamiliar with a lot of the Columbo ones. I did see a lot of the special yearly Columbos.

I'll see your Columbo and raise you a Harry O., Cannon, Longstreet, and Banacek. So many great (and odd) detective shows in the 70s. The hits (and misses) just kept coming. All good clean fun though!

Think about how great a show must be to reveal whodunit in the first few minutes, yet you still watch to the end to see how he figured it out.

Yep! Watched every episode of Columbo, and Gunsmoke (love it from my childhood) except the very early ones. Didn’t know where to get them. These shows comforted me when my spouse suddenly died. And I watched them from when I woke up till I dropped off to sleep. Day after day after day, until I slowly came back to life. Now it’s more Netflix and TikTok (learning how to moon dance - when nobody is watching).

I've been watching Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, it's on PBS. Set in the late 1920's and in Melbourne Australia. Really enjoy it.

I've started rewatching Murder She Wrote. The opening credits show Jessica out for a run, also on her bicycle. I looked it up, and Angela Lansbury was 59 when that show started! And I always thought she was so old!

Yeah... Cabot Cove, Maine was the most dangerous small town in America, murder-wise.

Nearly as bad as the English village of Midsomer for population depletion!

Cracker is a great UK detective series.
Subtitles or Scottish language understanding needed.
Midsomer Murders is a very watchable series as well.

I binged watched all the reruns of Miami Vice when I moved down here last year. That was a great show!
I lived in South Florida.
They had to use payphones and the gangsters would be walking down the street with the big boomboxes on their shoulder. Lots of big name special guests on the show. I want show Phil Collins play a game show host.

We spent the past year binging on Midsommer Murders, Inspector Morse, Inspector Lewis and Endeavour. All British Crime series and for the most part very interesting. The perpetrator is often a surprise. Although we speak the same language there are a lot of British colloquial expressions and the accents are very thick at times, so we often watch with closed caption on. We keep a cell phone handy to help understand some of the British slang. I find myself using the expressions "right" and "rubbish" now and then.

Yes, I kept telling my British ex, you guys can speak English (most of the time). I like the BBC version though, very much.

Another one I enjoy is Death in Paradise, set on a fictional island in the Caribbean but shot on Guadalupe also on PBS.
