Getting a new Ecobee thermostat for Christmas, I buy my own gifts. Does anyone know who can install to replace a Carrier PRH01-B thermostat that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg.

I have an Ecobee with voice command and I don't like it, I find it to be very confusing and am using it now as just a manual thermostat and nothing else.

Chuck Farrell did mine. $99 I believe. It’s a great thermostat. I hope Santa gets you the premium model with at least one remote sensor.

Do it yourself. Instructions are easy.
- turn off power
- pull off old thermostat and take a picture of the wire connection before disconnecting wires.
- install new mounting bracket with Sheetrock wall anchors.
- call the Echobee 800# list in the instructions and will customer service will ask for the old wiring picture. They will walk you through the connection on the phone (Mon-Fri).
- snap the cover on and turn on power.
- after it comes on, you can as customer service any operation questions.

Very easy.
Otherwise call Sunshine A/C.

I would not do it. I had Good Guys install my ecobee and it was about ah hour to complete. He needed to install the supplied power adapter to change the four wire to five wire to have the thermostat to properly control the carrier heat pump and variable fan operations. It all works fine after the install and I love the wi-if features and vacation mode to control humidity while gone.

I did mine up north. The Ecobee Lite (Same as TV used in my house here) is dirt simple to install! The main thing you want to be sure is that you have a "C" wire. Lift the cover of your existing thermostat and if the C terminal has a wire, you're all set. If not, you can use the other option, which comes with the Ecobee, but you lose some functionality. If there's an unconnected spare wire (up north mine was blue), you can use it, but it must be connected on the HVAC side. I just asked my HVAC service guy if he'd do it when he did my Spring service. He had to open up the lower unit anyway for the service, so he didn't charge me anything. The rest I did myself. It really is dirt simple.

Looks like your model uses a C wire, so the entire changeover should take just minutes. Read all the instructions, take pictures of the existing wire connections, in case your original did something funky. The wires are all color coded (red to red, green to green, etc.).

I agree with this assessment. I had done my own Nest thermostat in our previous house and it was relatively straightforward (two wires going to the thermostat, had to rewire it to use all 6 wires). Tried to do the same with our current house (again a Nest thermostat) and could not get it to work. Had Munns come to hook it up and it was basically a rats nest of wires in the air handler. They ended up rewiring the whole thing, technician said it was not wired correctly in the first place, the whole house humidistat was hooked up but not working.

I hear ya. I am fairly techy and yet was slow to get in sync with the Ecobee. It really is designed to be an app controlled device so if you don’t have the app I’d get it and poke around a bit. They have numerous videos on their website about how to use it and good support. My home is a 2019 build and I believe the ecobee came with it (not original owner) and is an Ecobee lite.

As for doing it yourself, be careful. My home had a proprietary Carrier thermostat which uses two wires that feed into an electronic module. This module, depending on when your home was built, can be installed behind the wall, in the attic, or inside the HVAC unit. This module then connects to the non-proprietary wiring that is common in most all HVAC units. Since I didn't know where the module was located and didn't have a wiring diagram for the module I thought it worth it to have a professional do it. YMMV.

The module on mine was on the wall next to the heat pump. Mike traced all the wires back to the source which included the condenser.

I did the same thing last year. I had Sunshine AC 352-251-3321 install mine and it works great.

Do it yourself. The Ecobee call in help line is excellent. I did mine 2 months ago and had some wiring issue and they walked me thru the process.
