My Xfinity bill is a shocking $296 this month
Regular monthly charges
$277.75
Taxes, fees and other charges
$18.48
New charges
$296.23
Statement total:
$29623
That includes ultimate TV (not very ultimate)
1000g speed
and home phone
If I went to choice + 500mbs and something like YT TV I'd still be in the mid $200

I have exactly the same Xfinity package, with 2 cable boxes. My monthly bill is $246. It sounds like you are not benefitting from a one or two year agreement where you would get a contract discount.

Probably. I always document the expiration date for the agreement and make an appointment with the Xfinity store to renew the agreement before it expires. If you don't, they won't notify you, but they will automatically eliminate the contract discount, and put you on a month-to-month plan.

Our Xfinity package up north got up to $300 per month and wouldn’t allow us to watch TV at our Villages home. We didn’t renew the package and went to internet only. We now have Xfinity internet only at both homes at $60 (north) and $50 (south) along with YouTube TV $75 and Netflix $16 for a total of about $200 per month and can watch TV at both homes. We also have Amazon Prime (which we have anyways for free delivery) and get Peacock as part of the internet package. We couldn’t be happier, saving $100 per month with service that now covers both homes. Plus, the YouTube cloud DVR feature is fantastic. When in Florida I can now record and watch all the Celtics and Patriots games. Lastly, we use Roku devices on all our TV’s so everything runs on the exact same user friendly interface.

Note that to get a $60 per month internet price, you will need to lower your speed, and purchase your own modem. Xfinity gives you a lower internet price for 12 months and then raises it. Also, if you want to keep the home phone, that is about $30 per month, and the modem you purchase will need to have a phone jack on it, which makes it more expensive than most modems. The $75 per month price for YoutubeTV is actually $83 after taxes. The Xfinity Ultimate TV service is about the same price as YoutubeTV and has about the same channels. I have done these calculations a few times, and always decided to keep my current Xfinity service. I also like that, when you lose your internet connection, the Xfinity cable boxes will still provide TV channels. Do the math before switching.

Up north we have 1,000 gig (much bigger house with more data usage) and in the Villages we have a slower 150 Mbps. I was reluctant to go with only 150 Mbps, but gave it a try as we can always upgrade. We have never buffered with two TV’s streaming simultaneously, so the 150 seems to work just fine for our usage.
The prices I stated are using our own modems, we have had good luck using the Arris Surfboard G34. Also, the internet prices are under contract and need to be periodically renegotiated. I recently got the new customer rate renewed at our Villages home by making an appointment at the Xfinity store on the corner of 441 and Rolling Acres. As a side note, I was able to get to the Xfinity store via golf cart by parking at the Sketchers Factory Outlet and crossing Rolling Acres. Best of Luck.

I have the 1gb Xfinity internet service, and I consistently get about 935mb to 950mb on an ethernet connected desktop computer. It is lower on Wi-Fi connected devices.

To clarify, it looks like that modem will not allow connection to the Xfinity home phone service.

You are likely paying a lot for that 1Gbps, do you really need it?
- If no then you can save money by dropping to 300Mbps which is more than adequate for streaming to multiple televisions
- If yes then see if Quantum is in your area as they advertise 900Mbps for only $35.
Do you really need a home phone? (we dropped ours about ten years ago)
- If you don't then you can save by dropping that and using only your cell phone.
- If you want to keep our home phone number active then consider a service like MagicJack and port your home phone to that. We did this and after about a month we used the call forwarding capability of MagicJack to forward our calls to our cell phone. MagicJack kept the old home number active at a fairly low price but all calls came to our cell phone.
We have found that we rarely watch network television or live broadcasts. We have YouTubeTV through the football season but then pause it from February to August saving about $80/month. We spend most of our time watching shows on Netflix, Hulu, or AppleTV (free with our phone plan). I think we end up paying about $65/month for all the streaming packages we have but we should probably cancel a couple to bring that down.

Spectrum internet only, $39.99 for the basic ~250 mps and they auto upgraded me to 400 mps no additional charge (no need for multi gig). You need to ask yourself how much streaming speed do you REALLY need and what TV channels do you REALLY watch and chuck the home phone and any cable boxes (most TV has streaming via apps. now). If you need a basic TV package most recommend YouTube Tv. If you simply like the oldie TV shows (Andy Griffith and Matt Dylon Gunsmoke) try Pluto TV streaming for free.

OP, you should also consider your cell phone service. Xfinity Mobile has a great deal for people who have Xfinity internet service. So, if you switch your internet provider to Quantum or another provider, I believe that you will no longer be eligible for the Xfinity Mobile cell phone service.

Get rid of TV and home phone. Pay monthly for internet only ( around $70 give or take) and purchase some apps which will be your “TV” Paramount +, Peacock and Hulu are good places to start. Tubi is a free app with a bunch of channels and movies.

This is true however there are now a lot of cellphone companies who offer unlimited everything for $25-30 a month. Most of them use Verizon network.
Streaming does not make sense until your Cable Specials expire and then it makes a lot of sense. Maybe keep Xfinity internet and phone and dump the TV service. That is what we did with Spectrum. Oh by the way Spectrum customer service is way way better than Xfinity!!!

I canceled Xfinity yesterday. Never used the phone. Wanted internet only. Best they could do for Gigabit + was $141/month with tax fees and modem rental. Switched to Quantum fiber 950mb for $35/month (no price change as long as I don't change plans--yeah right). I have YTTV and am now paying around $100/month total (saving just over $100/month).

We have my desktop, where I watch Netflix, browse, participate in social media and do some non-graphic text gaming.
We have my laptop, which hubby uses for work and golf.
We have my printer, which is connected to the network so we can print from the computer, the laptop, or either of our cell phones, anywhere in the country.
We have the TV in the living room, which hubby watches.
We have the TV in the "man-cave" which hubby watches when he's in there.
We have my tablet, which I use to read in bed at night, check the morning news when I wake up, and as an alarm clock.
We have the computer and one of the TVs on all day, most days. The rest of the stuff is used on and off throughout the day, except the printer which is used only a couple times every week.
It's nice to know that it is ALL available, ALL the time, and I don't have to juggle devices just to make sure that I can do what I want or need to do at any given moment.
We have 200mbps, and it works seamlessly.

Xfinity pulled that crap with us also when I canceled the triple bundle and wanted internet only. My response was cancel everything and see ya! We then called back the next day and requested new customer internet service only under my wife’s name (she kept her last name because of her established business) and they gave us the Gigabit + service for $60 per month with our own modem. You have to play games with them to get deals. There are no loyalty deals for being a good long term customer.

Xfinity 300MB for $40/month. We can easily stream 3 TV's or devices at the same time without any problems.
We use a Firestick streaming service for $100/year 2000+ channels.
I would suggest not paying for things that you don't really need. We decided that our budget for phones/internet/TV is under $150 and we're sticking with it.

T-Mobile home 5 G internet. 60 per month. When we travel I take it with us.. Download speeds of around 200 MPS more than enough to run 4k TV and all home devises at the same time.
Ruku TV gives us 400 live TV channels for free
We subscribe to Netflix, Paramount Plus, HULU, and Discovery Plus for a total of about 60 per month for a total entertainment fee of about 120 per month.

I used to use all the Xfinity services when I first moved here (9 years ago). I found the Firestick, I reduced my speed to 100 Mbps, I got rid of my line line, but, if I did have it I would get the OOMA box to replace Xfinity. You can buy your own modem (if you have a land line you will need one that has the phone connection). I kept going over the Xfinity internet limit, so I went with unlimited for a price of $65/mo. The OOMA is a one time fee of about $70 with a monthly fee for 911 and admin fee for about $8/mo. I found a TV service (from overseas) for about $20/mo for over 10,000 channels. A good source for anything Firestick is TROYPOINT.COM.

I used to have Xfinity, paid $30 a month for internet only. Could have used their modem/router as they were imbedded in all the apartments, but I had my own.
FYI on which ever “speed” you choose. Anything more than todays base speed, you are paying a whole lot of money for something you will never even use.
I could stream to 2 tv’s, 2 iPads & 2 iPhones at the same time, and all devices worked just fine. With their base 50mps speed.
Think having a fire hose, when all that’s ever used/needed is a garden hose.
Even now here in TV, using Centrix Fiber, base speed. 2 tv’s, 2 iPads, 2 iPhones and our daughter (graphic artist) on her laptop sending/receiving data intensive files. Not a glitch for any of us.
Again, why pay for something you will never use! Save your money and buy a Smart tv. No cable box needed, save even more off their monthly box rental.

YouTube TV for about $82.00 per month. Compare its channel lineup against Xfinity; except for AMC we found it to be the same. Unless you are hosting a website you have way more Internet bandwidth than necessary. Quantum offers fiber access for about $50.00 per month for 500 MBPS service. This is why we left Xfinity.

When my Xfinity hit $300, I finally made the change to Spectrum. I have everything I had with Xfinity (3 tvs) and I pay $198. I also was having an ongoing issue with Xfinity of pixals freeze framing which would sometimes take several minutes to stop. I googled it and apparently many nationwide get the problem and they can’t seem to fix it. Many speculate too many users on their network. Thankfully no problems with Spectrum.

Take a look at your taxes. If you have a landline they really gouge you on taxes.
If you have DVRs they get too. I went to YouTube TV since you have unlimited DVR with them.

Put up an amplified antenna, cost for antenna and pole less than $100. Get the streaming services you want, and pay for internet only from Xfinity or T Mobile., about $60 a month. We get Netflix, about $8, paramount+, about$10 month, prime (had that already) and now hulu, black friday deal was $20 for a year. More TV than we can watch. Also, with just two of you as internet users, and streaming to one TV at a time, you only need about 30 to 50 Mbps. The rest is wasted.

How do you watch the Pats from Florida? I have a home in NH and have youtube and it is blocked down here. Do you get to watch it later and not when it is on?
Thanks,
You add it to your library, record it, and watch it later. You can’t watch the games live unless they are on the local network. Recording to your library doesn’t now your current location and defaults to your home location settings (which would need to be your NH home).

Cheapest internet,OOMA, IPTV is what I use.

My Xfinity bill is a shocking $296 this month
Regular monthly charges
$277.75
Taxes, fees and other charges
$18.48
New charges
$296.23
Statement total:
$29623
That includes ultimate TV (not very ultimate)
1000g speed
and home phone
If I went to choice + 500mbs and something like YT TV I'd still be in the mid $200
Advice please
I just dropped Xfinity and signed up for Quantam Fiber Internet (new in the neighborhood), They have a lifetime guarantee of $50.00 per Month for Internet. I added YouTube TV which gives me unlimited DVR and live TV with all of the stations I get on my current package except for History Channel for $75.00 month +Taxes, fees. I added a Vonage home phone for $9.95 per month, so for less than $150.00 month, I have everything I need. It takes some work to get the YouTube TV set up, but if you have some ability in that area, should be able to do it.
Have had some speed issues with Quantam, but not sure if it is the Internet or my Desktop having problems, so will need to do some more work on that, but for the savings, well worth it!

You need to switch cable providers every 2 to 2.5 years to keep a lower rate. At least that is what our Spectrum rep told us.
Your Spectrum rep is wrong.
I've been with Xfinity internet for over 5 years now, and we've been paying $50/month the whole time. Every year I call them and spend around an hour being annoyed because I have to do this every year. And every year they renew my internet for $50/month.
So an hour of annoyance and inconvenience for a year of (mostly reliable) fast internet service at $50/month. The alternative for my location is something like 2mbp service for $40/month from Centurylink or whatever it is.

Wow, couple of thoughts, unless you are doing multiple zoom calls from several devices you probably don't need 1000mbs, I have 500 and I am a power user. Second if you do into the store they will always find a way to "offer " you a better deal. My wife goes in every 6 months and complains and they always find some "deal" to lower the cost. In fact she did this just this morning and they lowered it $50 a month...there is always some BS program they have to lower your cost...the whole industy is a scam. You have to fight it.

Not exactly. Their price for the basic services that Xfinity provides cannot increase, but there are certain items that are not controlled by Xfinity, such as taxes, regional fees, etc, that can increase. These items are identified in the contract.

You really don't want to do this. Illegal and they have caught and shut down many of these services. You don't want to get caught up in that mess.
Most people stream YouTube TV and are very happy. As most have said, here for most Villagers, 500Mbs speeds are more than enough and are priced around $50 no matter who you get it from. If there is a deal for 1Gbs service for less like Quantum for $35, then get that since you can always easily with the click of a mouse, switch back to 500Mbs for $50.
Also, Remember, if you can get fiber internet, no research required, get it. You get bi-directional speeds meaning the same speed upload and download, no contract, no taxes and free equipment. Cable is "old fashioned", meaning its a shared network so you speeds and possible buffering will vary on the time of day, good download speeds but terrible upload so if you have doorbell cameras or backup you pc to the cloud it will be slow. There is absolutely no reason to pay the same or near the same price for cable service as fiber if you can get it. Finally, cable companies will alway increase your price becasue they offer TV services and have to pay the networks a franchise fee for the content they provide and these fees Always increase over time. The cable companies have no choice but to pass these increases on to their customers. The fiber companies don't provide TV so none of this applies which is why they can keep their services more constant.
If anyone wants Quantum Fiber, PM me because I can help answer your questions and see if its for you.

You could've saved $20 by sticking with Xfinity for internet only, plus your YouTube, Netflix, and Discovery. Could've saved another $12 on top of of that, by downgrading your Netflix to allow ads (which are like - 30-45 seconds every 15 minutes, at the most).

1) HP on Google says Low ink is detected by the printer firmware and cartridge.
2) And how often do you print from remote location WHILE competing with streaming etc. at home? OR at all ever? Few users find this of any value.
Ink is detected BY the firmware and cartridge - and that data only can transmit to HP via the internet. You have to have internet service, to use Instant Ink. If you have your internet service turned off for more than a few days you get an e-mail from HP reminding you that it can't establish a connection to your printer if you're offline.
And what difference does it make how often I use the remote feature? I use it. The statement was that no one needs anything more than 50mbps because TV streaming works fine at that speed. The statement is incorrect, because not everyone ONLY watches TV on a single device, with nothing else using the internet.
The more things you use, the slower your network will run. So if you have a higher speed network, the slowdown won't matter because it'll still be high enough to function seamlessly. It's always good to have "just one more" than you need. For me, that'd be 100mbps. But Xfinity bumped me up to 200 three years ago, no extra charge. They did it again just over a year ago so my current speedtest.net results are 355.35mbps downstream and 24.01 upstream. I totally don't need that much speed, but I'm still paying the same $50 as I was when I got the 50mbps 8 years ago back up north. They can make it as fast as they want, my modem won't handle much more anyway.

He could have saved $170 by getting an antenna but that isn’t what he wanted. He chose the no-ad version of Netflix intentionally so there really is no $12 savings there.
EDIT: Okay, you have your own modem. That would take about $15 off the price I paid and made it close to $50. Yeah, I could have saved money that way but I wanted to never be in the position to say, “ my modem won't handle much more anyway.”

I bought my modem for $49 from Best Buy. Three years ago I walked in with my list of compatible modems from Xfinity and they found me one within a couple of minutes. Seeing is it's saved me $10/month plus tax, was totally worth the extra 15 minutes to go to the store for that as I've already saved over $350 dollars on not paying a modem rental.
These modems can handle speeds that won't even be needed for 10+ years from now, and only if all my TV's are streaming 8k.

I've had the modem for almost 6 years, the router too. It does everything we need it to do, no need to upgrade because as I said - I can do all I need to do with 100mbps, and they give us (at least) 350mbps for the same price.

Exactly. You also save time, because you hook it all up yourself instead of having some stranger in your house messing with cables and with your computer and such. If I need something with my computer that I can't figure out myself or get help with troubleshooting over the phone, I'll pick up my computer and bring it to the repair shop. This isn't rocket science, you don't even need a high school diploma to figure it out.

Apollo group TV is an IPTV service meaning they are a streaming service like YouTubeTV. In the past, many of these services were illegal streaming services that got shut down. Apollo is legal. So why not get it?
1) You get what you pay for. Subscribers report occasional buffering, freezing and other streaming issues.
2) These streaming services need to maintain adequate servers and connections to the internet in order to work well. Because they charge less, they do this at a bare mininum.
3) Any service that works over the internet is never going to be the same quality as a service that has direct connections to the major networks, Netflix, etc.. This is why when there is a "special" sports event you will see buffering. It's not your internet connection but it's the IPTVs connection to the source material.
4) There is no DVR function which doesn't surprise me because they have to maintain storage for this function and it's costly.
All this said, if you like to experiment, try Apollo or any other legal IPTV provider. If you don't want to experiment, get YouTube TV. Remember, it doesn't make a difference how you connect to the internet, Quantum, Centric, Xfinity, Spectrum just get a plan that works for your. Also, I see all these prices for service, do your research and you will find that the prices for an equivalent speed is not that much different across these companies. For very basic internet usage plans for 100-200 Mbs will work. For most Villagers, plans at 500Mbs are the "norm" these days, and for work at home or power users, 1Gbs is what some get. As you are seeing the fiber companies are offerint 1Gbs speeds at a cheap price to lure in customers whether you need that speed or not. Also, some Villagers consider negotiating yearly with the cable companies a "sport" so they feel good that they got a "deal". Nothing wrong with that if that's how you like to spend some of your time.

...
Fact or assertion with no sourcing?
Doesn't pass the smell test. If cable companies are often forced to drop local channels over price negotiations with the networks and if both HuluLive and YouTubeTV need to charge over $75 to provide locals and if no legitimate provider can give you out-of-market local channels and if the NFL alone charges nearly $200 per season for their games and if Netflix, HBO, and Showtime each charge a monthly fee approaching $15 then HOW can an IPTV service legally provide all that and more for just $13/month? Does ApolloTV really know more than YouTube, Hulu, NFL, Netflix, HBO, Showtime, and Comcast combined or is it just that they have not yet been shut down?

Smell test? does it smell like facts or assertions? What does that smell like? They have a 3day free trial (or buy one month) and if they are found to be illegal then the service goes away...if it proves unreliable then look elsewhere. This ain't that difficult! It is always best to pay for any of these internet services with a virtual card off your credit card so you can turn off the billing. Virtual Card is your friend :)
Google Freeplay is free...So is Roku Channel...Youtube is free (Not Youtube TV...what marketing genius thought naming the subscription channel "Youtube TV" was a good idea?) and there are billions of videos on Youtube. There are 100s of free channel apps to spelunk. It is shocking to me that anyone would pay $300 a month for garbage TV! ...And at that money, they still throw retarded commercials at you as well!

The way I figure it, I could drop Xfinity (except for internet), and get all of these services somewhere else, but if I succeeded to get everything that I get with Xfinity, the cost savings wouldn't be that much. (as long as it’s legal)
Right?
Of course I could cut out services like Cinemax and Showtime, but I don’t want to do that.

Your cost savings would be pretty significant. First, change your internet from 1G to the $50 plan. It might start you out at 100mbps and they'll bump you up in a month to 200mbps "no charge" (they do it for everyone). That's more than you'll need unless you're doing professional digital stuff, or own a shared game server.
So just by reducing your internet service speed, you'll be saving $66. Keeping everything else exactly the same.
NEXT...
Do you really need 4K Netflix with no ads? You're paying $20-something for that. For only $7 you can get HD, with some ads (they're really not a big deal, a minute or less, once every 15 minutes for some stuff, once every half hour for others).
NEXT...
Buy your router and modem. You'll save maybe $50 your first year, and $180+ each subsequent year, by not having to ever pay rent on it again.
You're paying all that, and only getting "Basic Limited" TV (50 channels) for $90? Dood. My condolences. Seriously, that's pretty horrible. Get YouTubeTV, or the Sling Blue with their sports-plus option, or Hulu+ LiveTV, and you'll get over 100 channels each. With Hulu, you get the added bonus of Hulu itself, plus Disney+ in the package. Each of these options are under $100 after taxes.

Thanks to the last two posters for their suggestions. I'm not sure when I'll make the change, but I'll continue to mull it over.
As far as sharing the YouTubeTV plan, I currently don't have anyone to share it with, but it might be tricky seeing how already I have a YouTube channel that I post nonsense on, along with YouTube Premium. They know who I am and where I live.
I don't want to lower my internet speed. I do a lot of Zoom and Zoom-like stuff with the company that I work for part time. I need it fast and reliable. Quantum fiber is available (940bps) at $75 /month, but then I'd have to change my comcast emails. I'm sure they'd let me keep them, but I'm sure there would be a charge. There's also the home phone number that works better than my cell phone numbers.
I have no interest in watching commercials on Netflix.

Comcast will let you keep your email accounts at no charge.

For Zoom 200mbps is plenty, unless you're /hosting/ the server that everyone else is connecting to.
You don't have to change your comcast e-mails. Your e-mail is yours. It can't ever be recycled and used by anyone else, so they won't remove it. The only time I've ever "lost" access to an e-mail address was when I had a snet.net e-mail. SNET ceased to exist and eventually all snet.net e-mail addresses were retired and eliminated completely. I still have a comcast.net e-mail from when we had comcast up north. That account was closed when we moved down here and I opened a new account with a different account name and e-mail. I don't even use the one that comes with my Florida xfinity account, and the xfinity bill gets e-mailed to my gmail address.
Edited to add: I lied. I had over 10 AOL e-mail addresses (loved those free trial CDs that came in the mail every week, heh) and a Prodigy e-mail address. They might possibly still exist, but I've long forgotten their passwords and stopped caring about them by around 1997.

Just be aware, Comcast is under no obligation to keep your e-mail active after you leave them. I haven't seen anyone's Comcast e-mail deactivated but up north, other cable companies disable your e-mail the second they disconnect you. There could be a day where Comcast decides to remove all e-mail accounts of non-subscribers to save money. Your e-mail storage is not free for them.

But, isn't that true for any free email service?

But Comcast is not a free email service. Comcast is provides email capability to its paying customers and, so far, allows ex-customers who no longer pay for the service to keep the capability.
Gmail/yahoo/hotmail/etc provide free email service to anyone who signs up. While they could discontinue service to any or all whenever they like, the only way to become an ex-customer is to delete your account.

Yes, after 90 days you can become a "new" customer again with them, if so desired, to get the latest promotions.
Correct, we cancel every fall at our family lake cottage up north in October and then become new customers again in early May. They always try to get us to put the service on seasonal hold for a small monthly fee, but then we would loose the new customer rate so we decline.

For cell phone service use Tello Mobile (T-mobile network)...$25 full up.
Unlimited talk/text with 5GB data - $14/month.
Tello is good, Mint is better - Right now $180 per YEAR for unlimited on T-Mobile, if you pay with your amex (sign up for the deal with Amex) they give you $45 cash back so effectively $135 for a year of unlimited. When we are overseas, you get a minternational pass that is $20 for 10 days of data(10GB), talk, and text. Can't beat it.
Full disclosure - I actually keep a second line on US Mobile with 2 GBdata for $10 a month so I can access verizon and ATT if I need to (mostly out west travel where T-mobile not as good).
Frankly, if you are paying more than $30 a month for unlimited phone plans, you are a bit off.
What the OP is paying for internet and cable is insane, it is good he is asking. It actually made me question the $61 I was paying a month for internet and am switching to quantum fiber for $35.
To be honest, I am not sure I understand why anyone has a "home phone". My home phone travels in my pocket.
