It's 2:30 p.m. A home on our block is having the roof replaced by Batterbee roofing. Heard a loud thud, was not sure where it hit, but not on a window. Lot's of laughing and shouting. When I looked out it was the CREW from the house being roofed, they were playing soccer, yes, playing soccer in the street from the house they were working on (?) to the middle of the block. I could not believe my own eyes. Definitely DO NOT deny these VERY hard working people deserve breaks and some stress release time. We recently had our roof replaced and both days I gave the crew hot coffee and donuts, and also small gift cards for each to buy a lunch, but this soccer match. with the ball going hither and yon, was pretty bizarre sight. Had quite a few roofing companies working in our villages, never saw anything like this ! Have seen some getting a short nap under a big oak, sharing food, checking cell phones, etc. but this is a first !

2:30? Coffee break time, maybe?
Why not? As long as the roof gets done on time and within the quote, that is all that matters.

BB has contract roofing team like most. BB contractor roofers done excellent job out our roof. I watch them and when they was done could not find 1 nail or piece tar paper or piece of shingle. For them I would imagine let us when was young throwing football on break.

I was really ambivalent about this, definitely feel the people who do this hard work deserve some recreation moments, then when I watch for awhile I really wondered if the company owner approved since some neighbors may be fussier than we are about their lawns, flower beds, etc. I ended up posting this as I was genuinely interested if others would have experienced the same ambivalent feelings I experienced as I watch this.

I was expecting the story to end up in a window getting broken. Glad all was ok, and I find it refreshing that their break is spent in playing soccer instead of being glued to their phone!

Soccer to these folks is their passion in their lives. I managed an operation in Mexico City and when their national team played it was religiously a time for them to watch and support the team. To the point that we would stop production and literally pull out a television and they would huddle together on what they could sit on , buckets , stools, on the floor and cheer for their team. It was an emotional experience to see their profound support for the country and the game of Soccer.

Good for them. Batterbee replaced our roof and we are really pleased. Their employees seemed to like their job and worked well together. It is ok for them to have a little fun during their break.

Years ago I needed a French drain inside my basement (up North). The guys had to jack hammer the cement, dig it out by hand, lug it up the outside stairs, and around the house to dump it. The they had to do the reverse, by bringing the small stones to fill the void and the cement to finish it. You would think that they would look forward to taking a break at lunch. No! They were in the back yard throwing a foot ball around! They were some very hard working guys!

What does it really matter if others have experienced the same thing? Would you prefer that hard working employees/contractors sit around swearing loudly during their breaks which is what I've experienced. But it wasn't bothersome to the point where I needed to post it on a social board.

I hope they didn’t get reported and then have to quit playing soccer on their break. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this company and next time we need a roof, they are getting a call from us. Hopefully, I’ll get to watch a soccer game breakout when they do the roof.

The loud booming music was not enjoyable! Hopefully the company has good insurance if someone would have gotten hurt. Yes better laughter then sitting on other people's lawns ( had that happen from a uncaring neighbors landscapers). It's all good, except when someone in another house is ill and subjected to the game.Still better then some of the other activities noted on roof tops. Grateful it is the last house on the block that needed a new roof.

Our neighbor had his roof replaced and they were up there working after it got dark. Not sure what they were doing but that would concern me that the job was may not have been finished properly. Most roofs they can do in one day but it’s a push to do it when it gets dark early.

You mean “football” right? Lol! Having had a daughter who was a soccer junkie I would have enjoyed the sight. My daughter kicked around a soccer ball all of her free time and played on 3 leagues. I miss going to her games and tournaments in places like Quantico VA every Memorial Day weekend and as far away as Ottawa Canada. Those were really fun times and the families became my social life. I miss it.

Considering that you paid around a $5000 premium to get a Batterbee roof, it is only fitting that they left a litter-free site.

I find it particularly unfortunate that the name of the company was included here. I hope that does not result in hard workers getting a reprimand.

I'd be pretty upset if they were kicking a soccer ball against my house. Even if it was unintentional, it was still careless and I'd be upset. Was your siding dented? How many cars parked outside did they dent? And then you say they were laughing? Should have called their company and raised hell.

Better than drinking and playing loud music as I had a crew doing a job for me a few years ago. Not cool…

So could they have been waiting for more product, an inspection, or lunch break. Wouldn’t it been easier just to walk down the street and ask? Doesn’t seem strange the owners of the house or their immediate neighbors didn’t chime in about the footballers playing in the street.
Then again doesn’t everyone remember as a KID the OLD GUY that lived on your block complaining

That’s fine as long as 1) the owner says it’s okay to use their lawn, 2) they keep off everyone else’s lawn, 3) they don’t get in the way of traffic on the street, 4) they get the work on the roof done in a timely manner. Otherwise, it’s a bad image for the company. They are hired to work. Like everyone else. Don’t tell me they need the exercise because they are sitting around all day. And Batterbee is among the most expensive roofers in TV.

Actually, I find it perfectly appropriate to call out the company. They are responsible for the behavior of their employees. But, that said, if the chaps played around without being a nuisance to the others in the neighborhood, then I look at it like when kids play street hockey. They can have fun.

Ambivalent feelings you say? I am ambivalent about their citizenship. Maybe they will self-deport. With AI and robotics in a couple of years complete houses will be made on assembly lines by robotic arms. And then transported to a location to be snapped together. Fewer people will have jobs in the future because they just won't be needed.

I have seen potholes in the residential streets go un-patched for several months. And low oak tree limbs overhanging streets and truck roofs hitting it. I have seen unleashed large dogs roaming around a neighborhood. I have seen golf cart going by at 40 MPH. If you actually live in The Villages, you can find some imperfections.

The US had its biggest immigration (legal) period recently about 2010. I think that we have too many people in the US for the purpose of keeping worker wages and UNIONS down. I think that there needs to be a calculation to determine the OPTIMAL US population considering factors like traffic and school and hospital overcrowding. Note schools are overcrowded. Farm crop harvests are decreasing due to lower soil fertility due to over-farming. Then there is the ILLEGAL immigration problem - 11 to 20 MILLION.
..........I don't care if they are blacks, browns, blues, yellows, or white. I am talking numbers - that are NOT right.

I’m not questioning this, but does one get a discount from the property insurance companies or an extension on how long they’ll let a roof be considered insurable because it was put on by Batterbee or some other premium roofer? I don’t know the answer but perhaps others might.
