A GREAT inspiration and no old age ailments, mind OR body, could get him; he died of pneumonia. I can imagine that when he entered into Heaven, The Almighty met him and said: Now, THAT'S what I'm talkin' about. Well done!"

He was in great condition. So, why did he have to die? I know, he had pneumonia. But from what I understand, he was exercising right up until the day he died. That's what his wife said to a reporter and I read it in the Daily Sun (I don't have television).
I had double pneumonia when I was in the army and was hospitalized. I received strict instructions from the doctor NOT to exercise. I was to get up early and get dressed every day (no napping). I could read, watch TV or talk to others who had the same condition. And we were told to drink plenty of water.
Would Jack Lalanne still be alive today if he had rested instead of working out? Did he not get the proper instructions from his doctor or was he disobeying the instructions?

Exercise produces endomorphins -- highly addictive. For Jack to not exercise would probably have been impossible for him. Regardless of fitness or health issues, soon or later our cells quit working. I'd say living to age 95 and staying as fit as he was is pretty remarkable.
RIP -- You were one of a kind, Jack.

He was a wonderful role model, and one of our lifetime memories.
Villages PL, just curious: Why don't you have a TV?

Too bad the successor to Jack LaLanne gyms, i.e. Bally's, won't come north from Orlando and open a facility nearby. Had them up north and their facilities were terrific . . . . . plenty of space and a wide assortment of machines, free weights, aerobic equipment, spa, pool, lockers, etc. Prices were cheaper than MVP and facilities were huge when compared to the regional gyms.

It was sad hearing of his passing. I heard that he exercised right up until the day he died. I want to be 95 and still exercising!

I used to live on the east side of 441 and I had a 15 year old Mitsubishi TV. It was a good quality set and I got (sometimes) one or two stations with rabbit ears. Then I bought a new house south of 466 and had to decide if I wanted to go to the trouble of moving it. I decided that it wouldn't be worth it. It was old and I might not get good reception. I think the one good station was out of Gainsville and I would be further away. So I left it with the house along with the DVD player.
That was in 2005. After moving, I decided I would be better off without a TV because I didn't want to become a hypnotized couch potato. :)
By the way, I agree about Jack being a wonderful role model. I don't know if anyone here is aware of this, but he was interviewed on the radio (in central FL) by the "Growing Bolder" program. It's a program for older people who have achieved great things. I'm not sure what year it was but it doesn't seem that long ago. One thing he said that I thought was funny: "Exercise is king and diet is queen."
