House Explosion in Lynnhaven.

Just learned from friends in Lynnhaven that a house exploded only
4 doors from them. This just happened, apparently a person was critically
hurt. House is reported to be a total loss.
Anyone have more information on this?

Happened yesterday around 3pm. One person critically injured. No more information available as of now. No cause given.

I heard the emergency vehicles heading out as I was leaving Publix right about that time. Or, at least, heard the vehicles heading in that direction if they were coming from another station.

Drove past this home on golf cart today. I did think I smelled some of the results from the fire unless it was the various fire places even though house fires do burn many other things than just wood.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of these nearby fellow Lynnhaven villagers.

My home looks to be the exact same design. Looks like the fire was directly above the kitchen.

Considering that about 50% of fires are started in the kitchen, it seems pretty likely that's what it was.

I have not seen too many gas furnaces installed in The Villages. Our houses are heated with heat pumps and some have an electric heat booster. That said, I wish we had gas in my neighborhood because food is better cooked on a gas stove.

Most of us heat, cook, and dry our clothes with gas in the north end - Village of Springdale.

Zillow lists two houses with gas heat in the area of Lynnhaven. (I stopped looking after that)

Come to think of it, in over 60 years I have never inquired as to what type of heating system was being used in a house I didn't live in.

Our whole neighborhood here in Amelia has gas. We have gas heat, water heater and dryer.

Back patio grille? gas yes, outside, but the pipe runs through the attic? not sure, I am assuming at the moment. .

That could very well be coincidence.

It looks like the roof burned through near the highest point. Heat rises and fire climbs so the roof would burn through at that point for most any fire in the home. That the kitchen was centrally located below that point might simply be coincidence.

The large area of burned grass outside the lanai might be worth considering.

When I read there was an explosion, my first thought was a gas stove/oven. I’m not saying that was the cause, but it certainly could have been. Unfortunately, gas ranges and memory loss are a very dangerous combination. We almost had an accident at my mom’s during her later years that caused us to replace her gas range with an electric. Whatever the cause, here is wishing the best for everyone involved in this unfortunate accident.

Could have been another lithium fire from a golf cart? It ignited the gas lines in the house?

There was a meth lab bust in February 2013 not very far from this house. But still a few hundred feet on another street and across from Churchill Downs. It is discussed on Talk of the Villages.


A small fire was involved. Drug sniffing dogs were brought in.
