Netflix question.

I am completely fine DVRing football games and watching an hour or so into live. This way I can fforward thru commercials and such.

But on Netflix, with the 2 games tomorrow, can only watch live, right? That sucks as I must dedicate 3+ hours with no control.

Am I right with this - only live???

You cannot record the game, but you may be able to pause and go backwards and forwards. At least you can with movies and other content.

I’m pretty sure you have control to rewind and pause during live events, so once the game starts, just see if it’ll pause and if so, you’ll be good to go.

I have Xfinity and Netflix, but I have never been able to record anything on Netflix. When I press the red record button on my Xfinity remote, nothing happens. How did you do it?

I am watching the 11:00 preview on Netflix and you can play from the beginning, etc. Move it back and forth in time.

Correct, but you are watching it On-Demand, like most other Netflix content. But I don't think you can actually record Netflix content to a DVR. Unless I am missing something?

Xfinity is live television with the capability to record. When you record them you say they are on your DVR. When Xfinity records them you say they are On-Demand. Both are recordings.

Neftlix doesn't normally have the concept of "live" anything. Your record button doesn't work because it doesn't make sense; all Netflix content has already been recorded and is played back on-demand.

The question is, will the operational mode change for the games today? Will Netflix provide a real time feed during the game and then after the game provide it as on-demand? Or, will Netflix provide the game on-demand from the start but with fast-forward working only until you reach the current time? (clearly, you can't FF to the end of the game before it has happened)

From what Tal is reporting, Neflix is able to use the on-demand mode for this show as well.

Yay. I can play then switch to something else. On Netflix or not. Then go back to football where it stopped and continue on or fast forward. Great. No commercials etc.

Netflix doesn't have the ability to record livestreams from its service. It's just not something they do.

You could probably get around that by having a livestream play through a DVR device and record it that way, and play it back. It's against the terms of service you agree to when you get your Netflix account, but a lot of people don't care about pesky things such as copyright law and honoring their end of an agreement.

This event is likely a case of Netflix broadcasting NFL content. The NFL has sold ads that will be part of that content.

- If watching live then of course you will see the original ads.
- If watching a few minutes behind while the event is still going on you will likely see the original ads but be able to FF through them

Now, after the event has ended and Netflix has processed it, different things *could* happen.

- The event could be presented just as if it was DVR’d and you would be able to FF through ads
- Netflix might tag the ads and not allow FF unless you are on the ad free plan
- If the licensing with the NFL requires it, FF could be disallowed even for ad free plan users
- If the NFL license allowed, Netflix could replace the ad content with content of their own and then handle FF according to the plan you are on.

My guess would be the first, DVR-like, but I would not be surprised if it was the last with ad content replaced.

Netflix seems to have learned from the Tyson fight. I watched both games and didn’t notice any problems at all.

Still not sure about games on Netflix, Peacock, Prime, or even NFL network. I’m fortunate to have all of these but not everyone does and who knows whether I’ll have the next service they choose to use.

we are slowly being weened off of free NFL games, with no resistance, and moving to pay to watch NFL games......

Why would you want to record? You can watch anything you want WHEN you want.

The most common reason people record shows is to skip past the commercials. If you record TV shows, you can watch a 60 minute show in about 40 minutes.

- Prime: Thursday night football
- NFL Network: This Saturday

The "powers that be" are forcing us back in time to 1960 or 70 by making us watch the commercials. I always put the sound on mute and wish that I had a 2nd TV set up. Then I could watch a basketball or baseball game during the stupid commercial.

A funny thing for me is that I PLAYED football in high school, but I stopped watching it on TV when I was about age 30. If everyone had my interest in watching football (either HS, College or pros) they would have to give away tickets and still not fill up a stadium. I have Netflix and I would rather watch something like Cowboy Bebop than pro football.
