I use Dr. Norman Novis. He has an office on Rt 466 near Rolling Acres and on Rt 44 near Brownwood. He is a good doctor, but he is the only doctor in the practice.

Primary care is a roll of the dice here in TV. We were lucky. Our primary is Florian Gegaj, MD/Cleveland Health Center. (352) 353-0092. His office is adjacent to Lake Sumter Landing, maybe three blocks from Barnes & Noble on Old Camp Road. Dr. Gegaj is assisted by two APRNs, and the care we received these past three years is nothing short of excellent.

I don't know if he is accepting new patients or not at this time, but it might be worth a call. I do know he has been planning on adding another office in another location but I don't know where that plan is at this time.

Hard to answer without knowing your insurance. Villages Health Primary Care only accepts 4 Advantage Plans and doesn’t accept traditional Medicare and Medigap plans.

But they ARE participating providers with several non-medicare (Marketplace) plans.

As for ortho surgeons, I'll cast my vote for Dr. John Williams, if he's still practicing in the area. When I went for a consultation he ran Advanced Orthopedics Institute out of the Villages Regional Hospital before it changed its name. He was considered the best hip-replacement surgeon in the area. Google says he's a block away, in a small office park next door to Billy's Cafe.

Gegaj is not bad. You usually only see the PA’s. He will drop in for the yearly check up. We have to accept a lot of mediocrity to live in paradise.

Dr. John Williams was partnered with Dr. Alfred Cook at Advanced Orthopedics. They split up last year, with Dr. Cook keeping the AO name and location. Dr. Williams moved into a new location, with his new practice name of Williams Institute of Orthopedics. Dr. Williams is very good.

PAs, APRNs, etc. seems to be sort of status quo. Even in Minnesota, being served by the Mayo Health System, a lot of routine stuff was done by the PAs. I have no problem with that: they're supervised by MDs anyway and if the supervision is good I assume their service is good. With the doctor shortage it does speed things up: if patients were seen exclusively by MDs I think the wait times for service would be much longer.

Primary care: César Unyon, board certified in internal medicine.
Orthopedist for joint replacements, Jon Radnothy. Both are connected with AdventHealth/Waterman, in Tavares. It’s about 45 minutes’ drive for me, but AdventHealth/Waterman is the closest hospital with an A rating. Dr. Unyon can refer you to all sorts of specialists who work there. A big part of an A rating is a low percentage of nosocomial infections. Another is surgeons who do a lot of specific sorts of surgeries. Radnothy has the best reputation for hips and knees. He does a number of them every week.

My hubby goes to Novis and I see his female nurse practitioner, Melinda. It’s a great practice, and the new office on 44 is state of the art. Great staff too! He just started accepting new patients again this month.

My orthopedist is Dr. Kim at Brownwood Specialty Center on 44. He’s not a surgeon, which I like because his advice won’t be biased towards surgery that might not be necessary.

Agreed! I specifically requested the female APRN at Dr Norman Novis’s office because I wanted a female medical provider. I 100% trust her.

Before I moved to the Villages, I had an appointment with my doctor. For some reason he wasn’t available when I went to his office. I had taken time off work so I was a bit annoyed that I couldn’t see the doctor. However, they told me that I could see a PA. I don’t think that I had ever heard the term before but after they explained what a PA was, I reluctantly agreed to see him instead of coming back another time.

I was very impressed with the PA. The PA spent more than 30 minutes giving me a thorough examination and took the time to explain everything that he was doing. I actually thought that I received better care than being rushed by my doctor.

PA's are nice but Doc's are better! For that reason I left VHS and now go to see Dr. Ana Karovska, she has an office close to Brownwood on Rt. 44. She is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate and pro-active. Her phone number is 352-365-1224. Not as much "Fluff" as VHS but Dr. Ana is Doctor and a good one at that.
