I don't often go to see cover bands because I'm usually disappointed. What I really don't like is bands that pretend to be original but no longer have the original members. Saw Peter Noone last week (great concert) and they announced that Jay and the Americans were coming. Jay's been dead for years.

We saw Completely Unchained- a Van Halen Tribute at Savannah a month ago. They absolutely burned that place down. I've been there a bunch of times and have never seen the roof blown off the place like these guys did. There were a few empty seats for their first appearance there- but I'm sure next year will be packed. They will be at The Sharon next month. Got my tickets so hurry and get yours!

We saw Jay and Americans when they were here last time and I already knew Jay Black has been dead for quite a few years. I was impressed mightily with the group. This "Jay" sang "Caramie" and hit the high notes with power. They are worth seeing and his voice is a great replacement for original Jay.

I saw Australian Pink Floyd down in Orlando last summer. Great performance. The music/instrumentation was absolutely spot on and the vocals were good, even though I don't think you can ever re-create Gilmore/Waters vocals.

My favorite cover band was one that did Black Sabbath covers. The band still plays, the lead singer is Ozzy Osbourne. He does great Black Sabbath covers!

I would suggest another band, which is note for note perfect, with dead ringer vocalists, also coming to TV this spring--they do two sold out US tours a year. Chicago has promoted their videos, Danny Seraphine has sat in with them, and Richard Carpenter had their female lead singer to his house for dinner. They play just about every Chicago hit, along with songs from Earth Wind & Fire, Blood Sweat & Tears, The Carpenters, Steely Dan, Lighthouse, Stevie Wonder, Tower of Power, Chaka Khan, Elton John, The Ides of March, The Brecker Brothers, Deep Purple, Dionne Warwick ("I Say a Little Prayer") and a few others, along with an original song or two.

Three Dog Night IS the greatest cover band EVER. Over 20 top 40 hits, over 10 top ten hits, all of them covers. They are still touring as well, Danny Hutton the only original member.
