Not sure why, but I like Escape from Ney York. Maybe due to the premise or Adrienne Barbeau's "acting"

First: Spoiler Alert

Tough choice. Low budget films like “They Live!” and “Prince of Darkness (with an Alice Cooper cameo) come to mind. But “The Thing” scared the bejesus out of me watching at home alone in high school.

The premise of “Prince of Darkness” is haunting. Several original concepts like (1) the light of a distant supernova just now hitting Earth and awakening long-dormant attributes of living things and (2) warnings from the future sent on tachyon beams that arrive in the form of dreams.

Now I have to watch “Prince of Darkness” again. lol!!

Viewer warning: When I say low budget, do not watch these films expecting high-end scores. If memory serves, the soundtrack for “They Live!” was penned by Carpenter himself.

There’s only one answer… “Assault on Precinct 13”. Then again, I’ve seen “Rio Bravo” and “El Dorado” 20 times each… So, there’s a pattern with me. He has made a lot of very entertaining films.

Throw “Rio Lobo” on as well… Honestly, sometimes I don’t remember the Duke movies individually, but just a six hour intertwined blur… But they’re still fantastic…

I just added this to my "Recommended by Sandbern (TOTV)" IMDB list. I'm weird like that, but now I have to see that movie.

Fun fact: I have 27 lists on IMDB -- and too much time on my hands. :)

Rio Bravo and El Dorado both outstanding films

Good John Wayne films, but John Carpenter had nothing to do with them. Carpenter did do "El Diablo"

They are all 95% the same script, but “Attack…” wasn’t a western. Carpenter admitted he stole the story straight from those Howard Hawks’ movies and it’s obvious if you’ve watched the movies…

I’ve got four obscure movies… “The Outfit” (2022), “The History of Time Travel” (2014), “Coherence” (2014) and “The Man from Earth”(2012). They all have great “twists” and they’re all better than “Attack…”
I think they’re all still on Amazon Prime.

I did not know “The Man from Earth” was a Carpenter film. How fitting when you consider who the man from Earth was in the movie. It is an amazing, thought-provoking film and I recommend it highly. And, no, that does not mean you should get stoned before seeing it. :)

It’s weird how little traction this thread has gotten. Maybe someone should complain about dog poop, dogs off-leash, navigating roundabouts, or snowbird traffic. That might get more eyes on the thread. Not that those would necessarily be quality eyes. lol!!

There was a movie about dog poop. A man came up with an invention of a spray that made dog poop disappear and quickly became rich much to the envy of his best friend. Think it is called Envy. Not by John Carpenter though.
