Steps for repainting a Villages' home's lamp post?

What do you need to do for this to turn out well?

Personally I would stick with flat black, as for prep, ours is aluminum, so go to ACE hardware, and get a spray can of paint for aluminum, you may need a suitable primer. Aluminum is difficult to paint, and proper prep is necessary. If you are going for a color other than the "standard" black, I would at least call ARC so you do not get reported.

1. clean your existing post.
2. use a medium-grit sandpaper to smooth out any rough patches that have accumulated over the years.
3. clean it again.
4. open paint can
5. insert brush
6. paint with smooth up and down strokes.
7. close paint can
8. clean brush when finished

Celebrate with a fresh blended pina colada.

It can be done that way but I would probably stick with a spray can of paint on a day it’s not windy and it’s probably cheaper and better looking finish than a small can of paint, IMO

And probably will use spray paint.

Did ours last year. Lightly sanded. Wiped clean. Spray painted flat black, 2 light coats. I used a large piece of cardboard that I held up behind it as I sprayed to minimize overspray.
I also did the lantern. Disassembled, sprayed the parts. Cleaned the glass.
Reassembled with a new light bulb while I was at it.
Turned out great.

All outside yard lamp posts in my are white. I just buy can spray paint and spray it due to sun fading it. :) save the can for future touch up’s.

Steve Kling painted out previous house, all fixtures were removed. Acid washed finely sanded and sprayed with the dark bronze original color. Still look new after 8 years.
