Village of Caroline many streets were named after small towns in North and South Carolina. Kind of cool! Some streets I observed are named after Property of The Villages sales agents and other Village employees. As noted, The Developer makes the call.

It appears that the naming of the roads is dependent on the village in question. Over on the Historic side, many of the roads were named in honor of the Schwartz and Tarrson families, such as roads bearing the founders' names, Boone Court (a Schwartz family member), and Kiley. In addition some were named for the owners of the properties that were there before they developed the trailer park that became The Villages. Bowersox Road, to my knowledge, was named after the Bowersox farm that occupied much of the land there. One section of the Historic Section was named after flowers. Magnolia, Orchid, Daffodil, etc. Another has roads named for famous golf courses, such as St. Andrews, Pebble Beach, and Cyprus Point.

In the Spanish Springs area, it looks like they picked random spanish words and phrases that sounded good without much thought to their meaning. Agua way, is not along the edge of any waterway or retention pond. Rio Grande Avenue is not near any rivers, grand or otherwise. Loma Paseo drive isn't on a hill.

It is my understanding that Marion county requires the street name be a number and TV wants a name so they compromise and used both.

Naming streets is a challenge. Layers of government approval to keep from using a name which is the same as elsewhere in the county, or confusing to EMS. To get ahead of the curve, I would create long lists of names to get approved in advance. When naming streets I selected a theme or names from my favorite areas to travel. One year I focused on names from historic Texas cattle ranches. The 911 folks didn’t care for most. Another year I focused on historic Las Vegas casino names and people. I even have a couple out there with my name. Driving The Villages, or any planned community, I look for the patterns in the names.

Some streets are named after people living/working here. John Rohan has a rec center named after him. Morse Blvd is named after the developer. Boone Court is named after Mr. Morses' daughter, mother of Megan Boone from Blacklist. Tutt Place opposite neighborhood Walmart is named after Janet Tutt...originally the district manager.

You won’t want the same last name as a street name. For instance John Doe on Doe Drive would be a reoccurring Doe, Doe. That and there can be a lot of work involved in redirecting and misplaced parcels.

Yes, the addresses up north may be a pain to write and recite, but they may save your life! I have been told that it's for the emergency vehicles to find your residence faster. Besides, it fun to recite your address to someone who's writing down because it seems like it never ends!!

There are many ways… they use names they know, people who work here in some capacity. The law firm McLin Burnsed for example. Both names are used in TV yet no actual McLin or Burnsed works at McLin Burnsed. My realtor has a street name but so does my friend from Leesburg who’s never lived in the Villages but her family is very well known in Leesburg.

It would be fun if there were a master list somewhere with a brief explanation of where the names came from. My street is only one block long with about twenty courtyard villas on it. Does that mean the person wasn’t very important?

Churchill Downs and Pimlico rec centers, not far apart, are named after famous horse races, as is the nearby Morven Park Way. I thought for several years that Rohan Rec Center was a reference to Lord of the Rings and the Riders of Rohan. I was hoping there would be a Frodo Street, Bilbo Street, Gandalf Street, Aragorn Avenue, Sauron Blvd., or whatever. Alas, it’s named after some villages hot shot we might otherwise not have heard of.

The street names in my area are named after trees and plants. It is my understanding that the street names are coordinated with the name of the village but who knows. The best source of information, to OPs question, is the developer and his build and design teams.

Agreed! We looked at a home on a street with a crazy complicated spelling that we couldn’t pronounce, and even though we liked the home we didn’t buy it because of the street name. Unfortunately, we ended up with a home (brand new) that has an address number the same as at least three other homes in our village, including one just around the corner from us that’s an Airbnb rental property. Twice now we’ve had renters trying to use a key to enter our home late at night because they’ve mistaken it for that rental home. Plus, there’s been a few delivery mistakes for us and the others with our same address number.

No kidding, it's gotten completely ridiculous down south. I did kinda want to live on Pagen Lane in St. Catherines though when it was getting built out.

Friends and associates names came first, then computer generated lists. There are a few streets with the same name, but only 3 that I'm aware of.

That's because Marion County would not give up their numbering nomenclature. The developer wanted street names only, the county wanted county quadrants and numbers (like Miami and other cities in Florida). The compromise was what we have now. They both got their way. But try addressing two envelopes, one with 1234 Pine St. and one with 1234 SE 187th St., and they will both get there. The Post Office has both in their Zip system.

Marion County insists on "numbered" streets. The Villages uses names for streets ........ hence, the compromise.

Marion County uses a grid system for street names. The Villages uses some marketing genius’ idea. It is a pill to swallow, but we like it.

Never. But I stopped using "The Villages" for my city and now use Lady Lake. Reason: "The Villages" is considered to be primarily Sumter County, and having to point out that MY Villages home is physically located in the city of Lady Lake, in Lake County, is annoying to me. So I just say Lady Lake and that expresses what they needed to know.

You are correct about Loma Paseo NOT being on a hill--I have a house on that street, and it's pretty flat. Very nice street, though.

...and many south of 44 are named Avenue, but are actually long loops, so no one bothered to think it through logically. Many would be better named Loop. There are a few streets I wouldn't want to find my dream house on in TV.

So, recent comments about street naming convention in TV made me wonder again about the idiocyncracies with the house numbers. For instance, in our area some streets have 3 digit house numbers, and the street over has 4 digit house numbers. And further, each house on the even side goes up 4 numbers, instead of 2, and same with the odd side. For instance, 642, 646, 650, 654... why do they skip the even numbers in between? The next street parallel might be 5653, 5657, 5661. Must be an (il)logical reason.

Some streets in Glenview are named after Illinois towns. I live as far north in The Villages as possible in Marion County just south of route 42. Our address is The Villages and not Summerfield, Fl. At one time 20 some years ago, our mail was addressed to Lady Lake but eventually just became The Villages.

I was told many years ago that streets are named after the Morse family members, realtors and locations that have significant meaning to the family. Not sure how they pick names now for all developments south of 44
