Does anyone think Costco will offer discounted memberships to new members? Kinda like what BJ’s did awhile back before they opened.

Not in the 25 plus years we have been a member. Costco already knows how much clientele is with a mileage range of new build. Those 700 parking spots will go quickly everyday

Nope. They are not hurting for customers. They will have PUH-LENTY who will pay for the full price membership. Besides, the business model is largely geared toward membership sales, not actual product sales. A large proportion of the income / profit is from membership sales. Why would they discount their primary focus?

BJ's and Sams are always doing deals, looking for members. Not Costco; they don't need to.

Costco occasionally offers membership discounts. The one from October was $65 with a $45 rebate.

Here is one offer that I've seen people get in the recent past. You get a $20 Costco gift card when you sign up for a membership.

I'm not a big fan of big box stores, but with the competition, from B.J.s and Sams Club that already have a foothold, I believe it would be foolish if they didn't offer a discount to join.

I don’t know, but I can’t wait for my $1.50 giant hotdog and a large fountain drink!

When they open the new store in Fort Wayne, Indiana back in about 2010 they offered a deep discount for the first year membership.

BJ gave us a discount the second year, turn off auto renew, wait about a month or so & they gave us membership discount plus cash back if we spent $xxx the first day. No guarantee they will do this every year.

When they opened the Clermont store, they offered no discounts—and had lines out the door of people signing up for membership.

With the Sams club credit card I get 5% rebate on gasoline. At $3 per gallon, if I drive 13000 miles a year, the membership is free.

There is no need to offer a discount. It's like the movie "Field of Dreams"...if you build it they will come. There are already tens of thousands of Costco members living in the villages and surrounding area that drive to Wesley Chapel, Clermont, and Orlando to shop at Costco....with never considering using the local BJs or Sams Club.

Sam’s club and BJ’s don’t even come close to Costco, I’ve belonged to all 3 and dumped Sam’s club when BJ’s opened and I’ll dump BJ’s when Costco opens. I no longer support Publix or Winn Dixie. Their prices are ridiculous Walmart has better prices and much better meats.

They usually offer something: a gift card or great coupons for popular products. Also note that Costco keeps track of coupons and discounts for you. They are very customer friendly.
We maintain our membership because of the quality, return policy and extra help and year of warranty when purchasing electronics. The fresh produce seems higher quality also. We purchase online frequently.

I don't know if Costco does it for a store opening but we joined Costco after receiving a really good offer to join and received the top membership. We had no interest in Costco and had a Sam's Club membership at the time.

We have renewed it once but really are not addicted like most. We like some of the products and prices at Sam's much better but then Costco does have some items we'll pick up on sale. We, to this day, don't understand all the hoopla about Costco. Unless they're 1 mile away the drive is a pain, buying frozen food and schlepping it 30 minutes to get home, lines at the gas pumps make little savings when one sits in an idling car 10-15 minutes and the crowds make it iffy for us. Renewal again is questionable for us.

Each to their own.

Last time I was near a Costco opening, they had tents setup in various parking lots around the city to get people to sign up. I believe the offer was 2 months free membership with a regular 12 month. I have other issues with Costco that prevent me from caring what they do though.
