Recently got my new Florida Driver's License. It is good for eight years but I kind of wonder if the Villagers who move around a lot need to keep getting new licenses to match their new addresses?

Eighty year or over people only get six year Driver's Licenses.

I have had Nevada, California, Arizona, and Minnesota Driver's Licenses, in addition to Florida ones. Did not pick them up for Colorado, Illinois, Wisconsin, nor Utah.

You can change your address online and they will send you a new driver's license. They will also charge you $25.

Ohio allows you to now go eight years from what was four so not unusual.

People over 75 need to only get 2yr licenses and should be required to retake the written test and driving exam every 2 years.

I was thinking once every 4 years. 8 years is way too long for someone over 70. Especially since many older people who need glasses, don't get their prescriptions updated regularly.

Totally agree. That's how it is in Canada. Cars can kill, it's paramount an unbiased person decides if an older person is still able to be safe for all on the road. You know a lot of people will not give up their license willingly.

Agree at 75 should have to take driving test again. Maybe good until 80. After 80, driving test every 2 years. If they don’t shorten the length of the license or require a driving test then at least make it where family can report problem and require a driving test.

TOO many old people in Florida why give them out for 8 years. Could you imagine the the lines reaching around block at Miami, Jacksonville, Orlando elsewhere. Nothing stopping person to take examination and self cancel? But, only the other old bad drivers. :icon_bored:

Besides only half population has drivers license anyway.

I thought all the older Canadians move to Florida? :pepper2:

You must file a change of address within 30 days of moving. The requirement is the same if you move to Florida

I think all drivers, young and old, on the next renewal of their license should be given a road test on traffic circles

How about an eye test, peripheral vision, reflexes, focus on what you are doing ?

And a stupid test would be good also. I see oldsters (wreckless driving - speeding) and even more stupid - tail-gating every day.
Seems like they're in a hurry to get to their next long-term stop in life.

Read the back of the Florida license. It states you must get a new license within 30 days for a name or address change.

I have been too busy checking out the front 's evidence of recent shave and a haircut. Lady barber did a good job.

You all should look around more it’s not just the older drivers that should retake the test. There are plenty of younger drivers that would benefit from this.

Florida tried that but was sued for age discrimination.

Is this for Florida, or some other state? How do you do this? They told me you have to take a vision test for a driver's license. Can't do that online.

How do you determine the day of 'moving' in order to start the 30-day clock?

I agree whole heartedly with you on that. I bet at least 65% of villagers over 75 would not be able to pass the written test but may pass the driving exam because someone is with them. They should also be tested by an eye exam as well for depth perception.

A reading and eye color test too. Teach em to know that STOP means stop, not roll and RED means stop and not roll. YIELD means roll.

The problem with driving safety is that too many drivers are NOT coming to a full stop at stop signs and many are driving at 40 MPH in a 25 MPH zone. Those problems can only be fixed by more Police handing more tickets out or tickets from speed cameras. I think that changing the number of years that a driver's license is valid MIGHT ???? have some INCREMENTAL improvement on traffic safety. I think that most Villagers are smart enough to have their vision tested at least every 2 years.

I agree. I see speeding and tail-gating every day. Also, rolling through a stop sign. When you are in a neighborhood how can people possibly believe that rolling through a stop sign is going to get them 20 seconds sooner to their destination. That is just illogical. It just shows that there is Not enough Police presence here in The Villages. And when Police can't stop minor driving infractions, it encourages non-Villagers and Villagers to do other crimes - like steal things from peoples porches. I read that people are stealing potted plants and breaking into cars parked in driveways.

I repeat my question: Are you referring to cyclists.

As far as your point goes, cyclist, car or cart, most stop signs in TV, especially at MMP merges, should be yield signs anyway

This is for Florida to change your address, assuming that you already have a valid driver's license. Go to this website and login or create a new account. Follow the instructions to change your address.

Pretty sure he's talking about drivers. I agree, if he is. I see people rolling through stop signs all the time in cars and golf carts. In addtion, some people take a "right on red" WITHOUT stopping first, like they're supposed to.

I've been cut off by people rolling through without looking first. It's especially bad coming from West Boone toward 441 at the intersection of Paradise. People coming FROM there - have a really bad habit of not coming to a complete stop. When I'm returning from 441, MY stop sign is BEFORE I get to the gate. Once that gate has opened for me, I am the ONLY one who has the right of way at that intersection. Everyone else is supposed to wait.

Usually people on Paradise will stop at their stop sign and look to see if someone's coming from the gate. But people on West Boone often don't.

It's very scary.

What's the obsession with cyclists?

At least a cyclist probably wouldn't kill you, or cripple you if they ran into you - like 1000 pound golf cart or 4000 pound SUV would.
You will spend years in a wrongful death lawsuit, and probably charged with negligent homicide.

Wish I had $10 for every time a golf cart has had to do a panic stop halfway into the multi use path to avoid hitting me. I'd go on a European vacation.
