Has anyone ever dealt with Freedom Forever Solar? The are soliciting and claim that they will put solar on your roof for free and give you a guaranteed monthly payment for your electricity that is less than your current average bill. Here is the glitch… instead of paying SECO you pay Freedom Forever for your electricity. Sounds very fishy to me. Could be a lot of “gottcha’s” in that deal.

Just curious if anyone had dealt with them.

They approached me and I just couldn't get a straight answer about how they make money in this so I just chalked it up as scam and moved on.

They just knocked on my door. Don't do it...there were many companies like this in CA and I did a lot of research before ultimately purchasing and installing a system we owned. The bottom line is they install the system (and get the tax credits) and you pay them a pre-determined monthly payment for your electricity. The net out your usage at the end of the year, and you will likely be on the hook for a "true-up" balance. It's like a lease... usually a nightmare if you sell your house and the agreement is not transferrable. Not to mention the kid that showed up was completely condescending and a little jerk, lol.

Run away from this type agreement, when you go to sell the house the new owners gets the "lease" and in many cases they do not want this.....

The basics, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

You enter into a lease with them, they pay you for the lease

They become your electric supplier, at a higher rate than your paying now.
They sell electric your panels are generating back to the grid.

RUN as fast as you can from the deal.
Your locked into them as supplier til lease term ends, then panels come off your roof (with lots of holes, patched up0

Typically just salesmen
that make a commission.

And from our research,
learned that we would have ending up “taking out a loan” for about $90,000.00 for 30 years.

Figured out that it comes out to be over $10,000.00 per panel, That certainly equates to a huge profit margin.

And incidentally the life of the panels
on average is also about 30 years.

Realized after sitting with a few salesmen from different outfits that the numbers they run coincidentally match the cost of your present electric bill, and the hook is that the monthly cost will never increase, but your electric company’s bill is constantly increasing over time … of course each fella was jotting down numbers on a sheet of paper in nearly the same exact fashion !

AND YES, if you attempt to sell your home, the buyer is obligated to take over the payments .. as it is primarily a 2nd Mortgage.

Be prepared for possible roof leaks after installation. Be prepared to pay a lot to remove the solar panels and re-install them when you need to re-shingle. Also contact your homeowners insurance company to check for any affect on your policy coverage.

Does the solar company contract require the company to repair a roof leak, how long does this coverage apply, and does it cover leaks located under the panels even if the leak was not caused by the solar installation? Personally, I don't think a roofer would be prepared to repair a leak located under a solar panel. This could become a major problem for a homeowner.

I think your doubt is well placed , pass it up . A lot of those deals you end up with lien on your house .

LOL. $90K would be enough money to pay my entire electric bill for more than 30 years.

Also, the last sentence would mean that there is zero chance that I would ever consider buying the house.

If you put 20 or $30,000 into the bank you get interest, isn't that better than putting that money on your roof? Second question how much more does your insurance go up if you can get insurance these days with solar panels,?

Who fixes the solar cells if there's a problem and what is the guaranteed time to fix?

What happens when they go bankrupt in 5 years?

Basically in Florida and arrow neck of the woods it just doesn't pay.

Nobody makes a profit by making you save.

Just remember that it voids the warrantee on your roof and if you ever need to replace your roof those panels must be removed and reinstalled at YOUR expense. Not to mention that they are ugly. Input from some neighbors who have had them installed is that you will not live long enough to reap the monetary benefits
