Hot Water Tank

Going away for 11 days. Is it Ok to leave the hot water tank pilot light on and the main house water shut off. Thank You

My last house had a vacation setting on the temperature (thermostat) of the tank. If yours does not I would just turn it down to the lowest setting with the water off it should be fine. Make sure you take a picture or note down what setting it was on before turning it down. Also note, I would not extinguish the pilot light as if you forget to turn off the gas…..boom.

I thought every gas appliance that uses a pilot light also has a thermocouple in the circuit. The thermocouple is only open when the flame from the pilot is burning. If the flame goes out, then the flow of gas stops. Am I wrong here?

Am I wrong here?Yes, after I wrote it I meant to say it might be best to not mess with gas valves before leaving and risk something leaking from an unexercised valve. Just turn it down as I have done that for a month at a time with no issues.

some older gas ranges have a no safety pilot, most of your older [like 1970 and before] range top burners had no safety pilot. now everything is electric start.
