Is there anyone out there that repairs Citizen watches? Mine stopped working so I changed the capacitor in case that was it. I sent it in for repair and they want as much as it cost to purchase in order to get it working again. I don't think spending over $400 to repair a $400 watch makes much sense.

Anyone out there works on Citizen watches?

If so, please contact me at noshwoogers@gmail.com

Thanks,

Steve

I have a beautiful one that just needs a battery. No one does those either. A few years ago it was $250 or so to send it in for that. Wish I had never purchased it.

I found this online in a forum where a user complained his watch was still dead after changing the capacitor.

"Have you tried an all reset? Most citizen watches need an extra step after the capacitor/storage battery is replaced. It is sort of like with a battery powered watch. After you replace the battery, you touch the AC button to reset it.

On Citizen watches, you don't have to take the back off for a reset.

You will need to find your 4 digit module number (on the case back and starts with a letter and then numbers (example E810) ) then find the online manual and find out how to do the reset.

With a simply 3 hander watch, the reset was to simply pull out the crown to time set mode and leave it for 30 seconds and then push it back in.

However yours is a more complicated model with a perpetual calendar so the procedure might be different.

Make sure to leave it in the sun for a few days to let it get a charge up first"

I think the Citizens have the eco-drive system which use capacitor batteries which recharge with wrist motion. They should last 10 years or more, so it’s weird that they are failing. A little more expensive than a regular watch battery and slightly tricky because you have to align them rotationally, But still easy DIY if you have a case back removal tool. Or any actual jeweler that carries citizen should be able to do it.

If the watch has stopped working it could be water infiltration due to a failed seal. If that is the case it’s not worth fixing. But the good news is citizen watches only cost a few hundred dollars. It’s not Rolex or omega money,

Oops sorry they are charged by light not wrist motion.

I have to send in my Royal Oak every time there is a problem, but they do everything for free.

I owned a Citizen dive watch that automatically wound by wrist movement and the thing gave me nothing but trouble. I finally gave up on it and got a Seiko dive watch with their version of the self winding mechanism. The Seiko watch has served me very well for many years without issue and is still running strong. I know that doesn’t answer your question, but if replacement becomes necessary I would highly recommend a Seiko, for about the same price .

I never said in my post but it is a Diver's model. After reading your post, I now know why it broke. I have a Seiko watch that has run perfectly for years. I inherited the Citizen watch from my dad which is why I wanted to get it working but not for the price of a new one. Thanks for the info.

I have 5 Citizen’s Eco Drive Watches. They’re about 10 yrs. old. I put them on the windowsill, in the sun, twice a month for 24 hrs. Once in a while, one will die so I just leave it in the sun longer and it starts up again!!!

Try gold in art jewelers on 466, they replace batteries for free for most watches.

When my dad passed I put his watch around the stick shift in my truck where it has been ever since. It keeps him with me and gIves me good luck when traveling. Someday when I get a new truck his watch will have a new home.
