Seat Belt issue when filling up with gas

Hello all - when we lend our cart to family and friends (despite us giving them instructions), the seat belt red push lock piece keeps getting broken when they fill up with gas. They lift the seat to fill up with gas, then simply push the seat back down again without thinking about the seat belt lock and this piece gets broken. We have just purchased a new seat belt from Amazon where the seat belt red push lock is on a rigid piece of plastic, ie it does not drop below the seat when the seat is up, but it does make it difficult to raise and lower the seat as it "sticks up", but at least it does not break. Anyone else had this issue please and perhaps a resolution?

It’s the cost of being a nice person. I don’t know without seeing it but sounds like the seat belts may not be installed correctly?

One resolution would be to tell them NOT to put gas in the cart.

Buy a 5 gallon can to keep in your garage and then you fill the cart from that when needed. It's unlikely anyone would put 250 miles on the cart in a week so you could probably get away with filling the cart only once per week. If you don't like the idea of a can of gas in the garage then simply take it back once per week and drive it to the station yourself.

As you pointed out, there is not a lot of room for the belt mechanism so it is important to be careful with it. Your experience is that no one is going to be careful enough so don't let them try. Fill it yourself and you don't have to worry about giving them instructions they will not follow.

We have Velcro strips that hold the seat belts out of the way when you need to open the seat.

Without seeing the actual golf cart, it is hard to understand the problem.

However, try the following.

Before they raise the seat, tell them to fasten the seatbelts first. Then they can raise the seat, fill it with gas, and lower the seat. After that, unfasten the seatbelts.

We click our seatbelts closed when we get gas, this way they’re out of the way, then just unlock them after filling up. No issue.

In put the exact same seatbelts on my cart. When I raise the seat to refuel, I grab both of the buckles in the center and lift them way up out of the way of the seat. It works fine. Educate your users on how to do this.

You are too kind. Have an itemized bill for a seatbelt replacement taped to the cart with a reminder
how to refuel and a you break it you repair it note even if you really would not charge then it might make people think.
