Went into both Lowes and Home Depot and employees in both stores told me I should buy the light kits on Amazon. One of them told me they were much cheaper there. I can’t figure out which kits are compatible. Did anyone order a light kit or get one from Lowes or Home Depot that worked?

Good morning Dave. The ceiling fans in The Villages are usually Kichler OR Progress. If you would like to call me at Pike's Electric, I can help you locate the proper kit to install. We do keep the Kichler LED light kits in stock here and offer installation of our light kits OR light kits you buy. Hope to speak soon! - Casandra 352-748-6251

All of our ceiling fans came from Home Depot or Lowe’s. They all work. You just wire them up, As far as I know there is no compatibility issue with any of them. They may be cheaper on line, that is possible.

What is the “compatibility” concern? Are you trying to make them work with some existing remotes?

I tried a light kit from Lowes and the base was smaller than the fan cover that I removed. I think I will just try a different one, I might have found the only one that doesn't fit. Thanks.

When I installed mine I was informed nice people on this forum that some builders contractors didn’t wire the fan for light kit? Course my home was build 20 plus years ago and I installed kits 10 years a go. May not affect you? I was told on here had something to with blue wire not connected at ceiling if I remember correctly? Hopefully you won’t run into that problem.

They should adapt to bottom cover using jam nut or replace bottom cover? Probably All come from China anyway.

LOL. Those employees were being honest. Amazon sells almost everything that Lowes and Home Depot sells, with a better selection and a lower price. I almost never go to Lowes or Home Depot to buy anything.

For some reason bedroom fans came without light kits on our purchase from original owner. Went to lowes bought the light kits and had handyman install them

Ceiling fan lights remind me of the ceiling lights they installed in every room in houses built in the 1950's. The light is very harsh and irritating, especially in a bedroom or living room. Why not just buy some lamps or use task lighting?

FWIW - when we found compatible lights for the fans it was cheaper to just replace the fans with something you liked better.... I think a gorilla installed ours because you couldn't take the blades apart, the screws were all stripped in place...

I bought two of these at Lowes for my Kichler fans. Mounted right up, all the wires are connected. If you want a wall switch vs a pull chain, that would be more work. $50. In stock.

I'm with you. Ceiling fans with lights immediately make me think "cheap" and then there is the fact that they are ugly to many of us.:yuck: I'd buy online if purchasing, why spend any more than you have to for them.

This one from Amazon is does work for $35.94 "Kichler 380931MUL LED Fan Light Kit" it just screws on and plugs right in to a Kichler brand fan that the Villages seems to install a lot of.

Not all light kits are compatible. Check the light kit to make sure it’s compatible with your fan make and model.
I replaced every 1 of our fans with much better looking fans with light kits and remotes. I had Galaxy switch out a fan switch to a combo switch for both the light and fan on/off and adjust the speed. I sold all my white fans on talkofthevillsges.com in just a couple of days

Pike’s Electric does great work. I’ve used them. Fast work and fair prices.

If the questioner wants to install a new FAN with lights, any brand will do. If the intent is to add a light to a fan already in place, then in many cases the specific brand is necessary. If you are in luck, the wires for the lights are already present under the cap at the bottom of the fan and they have an easy plug in connector that fits your light kit. Sometimes there is no connector, so you have to use wire nuts. Sometimes, if the fans were installed with no intention of having a light someday, the wire for that was never connected, and you have to wire it correctly at the ceiling level.

I had three Kichler fans in my twelve year old courtyard villa. No lights on them. I bought Kichler light kits that take multiple LED bulbs from Amazon. They weren’t cheap. In my case, all the wiring at the ceiling level was in place. I don’t recall if there was a connector I could use to connect the wires for the lights or if I had to use wire nuts. Because I bought the Kichler light fixtures, they fit the bases of the fans and weren’t hard to screw on.

However, I did this at a time when I wasn’t using the fans. The lights worked fine in the bedrooms and the living room. When I needed the fans, though, I discovered that the bedroom fans worked well, but the living room fan now worked at only one slow speed. I tried removing the lights, but that didn’t help. I replaced that entire fan and light assemble a couple months ago with a new fan I bought on Amazon, different brand. No problem. My ceiling is high in the living room. Fortunately I have an eight foot step ladder. A six foot step ladder would have been very dangerous for me at that height.

I have Kichler fans in my home.

I ordered the Kichler 380031MUL lighting kit from Amazon. Perfect fit and plug and play installation. Took about 15 minutes per fan. Currently out of stock, but there may be other vendors online. Paid about $35 for the kit.

BTW: depending on the model of your home, you may have an extra wire in your light switch box so that you can turn the light on and off with a wall switch. Just go to Lowe’s or HD and pick up a double switch. Problem solved.

I bought my light kits through Dans Fans store on rt 441. Tell him the model house you are lighting up and he knows what kits you will need.

I have a ceiling fan with the light kit listed for sale (very reasonable). Send me a message if you are interested.

I bought my light kits from Site Maintenance (https://www.lampsplus.com/) They have a very nice selection, much nicer than Lowes and HD. This is my bedroom fan light. Site Maintenance (https://www.lampsplus.com/products/crystal-beaded-off-white-4-light-led-light-kit__59j89.html) Oddly the links say site maintenance but take you to the links I posted.

If you have those little white crappy ceiling fans that came with the house, I think you're better off just buying a new nice ceiling fan. You can get something nice for under $200 with a light & a remote control. You're probably gonna spend at least $150 for the light and electrician to come do it.

The answer: Dans Fan City in Lessburg. They know the fans in TV and can show you about 10 different lights that are compatible. We went there the day we closed and picked out two different ones for our fans. You can take them and install yourself or they have a guy that will install them for you. The lights are lit in the showroom so you can tell how much light you want.

I love the fans from Dans. I only replaced a couple with direct drive remote with lights and love them. The add on lights are the ugliest I have ever seen. They remind me of 1880 gaslights.

For quality product and installation go to Dan's Fans in Lady Lake. Awesome to walk into a room to light. And a remote to control light and fan.

I bought generic ones at Loews, you can pretty easily retrofit /fit any fan. I added lights to 3 fans that didn't have them and retrofitted a dated looking light on one fan.

I installed the white version of this for around $100 per fan. If you can stand on a step ladder, loosen a few screws, plug a pre-wired pug in, you don't need to pay an electrician! If you want to use the spare wire in the light switch box it's a bit more work because they sprayed texture/paint/etc in there and sorting it out is a pain (things stiff and stuck together.) We're fine with the pull chain to turn it on/off with the wall switch just acting as a master on/off switch for both the fan and light.

That of course depends. Far as Amazon I wouldn't want to compete with them. I am shocked at all they sell, Any issue and they take care of it.

I buy products from Amazon almost every day. Most people don't realize that you can buy just about anything from Amazon, and it is usually cheaper than a store. It is delivered to your front door in one or two days, the shipping is free if you have Prime, and you can usually return it for free. Why drive to Lowes or Home Depot, when you can buy almost everything they sell from Amazon. Ebay is nowhere close to the convenience of Amazon.

I used this Treatlife wall switch from Amazon which controls the light brightness and fan speed and is wifi compatible.

Nice to have so much light in those bedrooms that originally came without a light.

Easy to install for someone who is moderately handy.

I've been on eBay for over 25 years (that should tell you something), and my feedback is over 4,000 (buying and selling).
I've never had one problem, and eBay is Johnny-on-the-Spot if you have an issue.
