View Full Version : The end of the monthly Cruise In in Spanish Springs ???

I was just informed that the April Cruise Nite at Spanish Springs will be the final one. Word came from our car club president who was informed from Village officials. I do not know if this is forever or if sometime in the future they will continue. Word is that they will begin redesign of Spanish Springs and it may no longer be conducive to large cruise nites.

Too bad for us folks that like to display our cars and for the people that enjoy going to look at them. I would think that was good for the businesses in Spanish Springs. I wonder what the changes will be, maybe on square reserved parking for the new apartments? Who knows.

The concept will be someplace new - they need content to get residents to new square.

There was an article recently about the proposed changes to the square, and I am sure the cancellation is due to the proposed construction, sorry I do not recall the specific details. i will post a link if I come across the article.

Hypocrisy seems to be at play. The stated commitment to keep Spanish Springs vibrant doesn’t jive with actions. Since we bought our home in the Villages the 5-7 happy hour has been cut in half, the weekly farmers market has been moved to Brownwood, the most popular bands, with limited booking dates, rarely are scheduled at SS, and now the monthly Cruise In is being terminated. Not good : (

Such a shame. Love to take visitors to these shows. And I don't if I have seen the same cars. They are forever cool.

OH but those cheap water sippers are to blame for the inability to make a profit. The length of the lines at the drink shacks plus temporary drink tent set ups on cruise night look pretty profitable to me. Wonder if the rent will be reduced to the shop owner left in SS. Had to be one of their high traffic nights of the month.

Anyone think a morning Cars & Coffee format could be a nice change?

Yep, I went once a year for 10 years and was still seeing the same cars. Quit going after last year.

Well, it does seem that the SS area is perhaps in a decline.

Wow guess your memory is better than mine. I doubt if I would remember half of them a year later.

Also expand Market of Marion show to 12 months a year. This is what I would do if I was President of Village car club.

To change is to grow, to change often is to grow much - quote from my 1st supervisor

The Cruise In was great, I like cars. Great for visitors too.
Ah, who remembers $2 Tuesdays at Church on the Square??

Was your first supervisor John Henry Newman? If not, they were quoting it apparently without proper credit.

I'm sure that the cars and drivers are okay with you decision. After 10 years, those cars are looking better than the people complaining about the car show.. It was/is a great experience for those who missed the best era ever. Cars and music

Same old population for last 5 years? Yes, I used to go but I’m not new resident anymore… I do agree the age population shrinking for classic car buffs. Maybe an electric car show would spark more of audience???:icon_bored:

First it was Katie Belle's, then the Realto, and now the cars. Way to go Morse.

We've been here going on four years and initially I wondered why The Villages hadn't moved this show to one of the newer squares, but after attending several times it made us aware of some of the better shops & restaurants at SS. I'm one who thinks this is another step backwards for the square but time will tell.

If they do temporarily pause the car shows at Spanish Springs, there are still the other two town squares that can host them...as they are already doing.

It seems that all the people complaining on this post about the cruise in missed the Daily Suin front page story. The story appeared a few weeks ago explaining changes and improvements being introduced at Spanish Spring town square.

We were told yesterday that the April car show we were signed up for, in Brownwood, was canceled by TV as they access car shows.

Given what's been going on in the lower Village areas, it's my bet that it's an effort to make even more money for the developer at the cost of amenities for the residents.......I guess we'll see soon enough...............

Change will happen over time. If a restaurant does not make money why keep it open. People stopped going to movies why not use it for something else?

The Daily Sun said they are reconstructing the front of the La Reina building to improve the store fronts and restaurant access. They likely need the street for equipment they will be using.

I would be concerned about safety issues what with Teslas self igniting etc.

Same old cars? Strange, I’ve been going to the cruise at S.S. for north of 15 years and every time I see some different cars. Maybe others just don’t spend as much detail time or I am just imagining things. I love Spanish Springs and the monthly cruises. Full disclosure - Wife and I usually miss a part of the hot summer months (June, July and August) by vacationing, traveling north and missing some of the Florida heat and humidity. To each their own.

Sadly, as the population moves south, fewer and fewer people want to venture north/fight the traffic to get the same thing they can get Lake Sumter and south.

I know its unpopular to say this, but I wonder at some point does The Villages figure out a way to sell off the Spanish Springs area/homes to another management company, and wash their hands of it entirely?

The population isn’t moving south, just as many people live around SS as ever. The southern population is most definitely increasing, but the northern population is most definitely not decreasing.

State Route 44 and Morse a new super Walmart is under construction. This will be the first big box store of many moving south. That particular intersection will be super busy. That said, no way will S.S. be sold to another entity.
