There's a new span of Rt. 470 being built over the Turnpike. Find out how it is being funded and whether it has bike/ped/golf cart lanes. I also ride my bike around The Villages on some of the new roads and multi-modal paths.

Appreciate your efforts to get and share the information.

This bridge work has to be coordinated with the Turnpike Expansion. Looking at recent work between here and Orlando, due to the Turnpike Expansion, FDOT has required all overpasses to have pedestrian access and even a trail crossing. So stay tuned.

For example, here's Grovelands communication on the Turnpike Expansion impacts to their community.

Incredible the Villages can do so much such as completely rerouting 470, restructuring that road adding multiple roundabouts, to meet their financial needs of their expansion. At the expense of those who previously used it as a thoroughfare between I75 and the Turnpike..

Without (as far as I know) public meetings, discussing alternatives or even communication from our local representatives in Sumter or Lake County prior to construction commitment

Last November I spoke with Yasir Mercado, M.A., Communications Manager Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise and she told me at that time that the expansion of the TPike in the Rt. 470 area would not require any work on their part on the bridge. I found that very surprising since satellite imagery does not show enough room for eight lanes but that's what she said.

Same for the older span of Warm Springs. FPL moved the power transmission lines south in that area to make room for something.

All the bridges of similar ages and construction have been replaced so far with the Tpk widening.

Will be interesting to see what materializes over the next 5 years.

Is that really the case or was the rerouting part of the presentation to the Sumter Commissioners so many years ago when they agreed to pay the Developer to upgrade the roads south of the turnpike? (I really don’t know)

This is all I could find as reported in the Daily Sun, no change indicated for 470 at that time.

My understanding is TV is paying for the 470 bridge. As far as round-abouts, it' my understand Lake County will not approve them and why there aren't any down here. I think Goldwingnut did a video on this.

If the developer is constructing the bridge, isn’t that payed for by the infrastructure bonds that homeowners pay in that area ?

Lake County has multiple roundabouts including a big one right across from the Lake County government center. ;-)
