True story, I was snorkeling in a bay (if my memory is correct, it was Jumbie Bay) on the USVI of St. John many many years ago. There wasn’t a lot of corals on the sandy bottom, but I came across a bunch is sea turtles and followed them way out to the open waters in the mouth of the bay where a couple of boat were moored. I was free diving and swimming with the turtles, and when I surfaced I came up next to a boat. The boat was named “Slowhand” and Eric Clapton was sitting on the boat watching me. He called out to me to be sure I was OK and asked if I needed to board the boat for a rest and a bottle of water. In such a private and peaceful setting he was just a regular guy being very nice and friendly. I thanked him and told him I was fine. We chatted briefly and he was very interested in what sea life I was seeing. It was a cool experience. And I agree, Layla is my favorite song.

Always nice to hear that performers are good regular folk. Layla is also my favorite

My favorite other than Layla, with its famous guitar solo, is" In A White Room." I believe today is Clapton's 80th trip around the sun. I guess you all know about his family tragedy. His toddler son fell to his death from Claptons' apartment window. He wrote "Tears in Heaven" in rememberance of that accident.

Tears in heaven. In my hard rock band years in the late 60’s thru the early 80’s, we would play a lot of Cream songs.

Impossible to name one favorite as he is one of my best artists of all time, since the 60's with the Yardbirds up to his new album today called "Meanwhile". Really love everything he does!! He is my guitar god at 80.

He turned 80 yesterday. Layla, I shot the sheriff (Bob Marley), White Room, so many can’t just pick one.
Remarkable guitar player; 3 time inducted in Rock and Roll hall of fame; Yardbirds, Cream and as a solo artist.
He started playing on cheap thick strings according to a autobiography. This undoubtedly played into his style.

Eric Clapton
Stevie Winwood
Ginger Baker
