My son just brought his 1989 Land Rover to his house in The Villages. He forgot he can't use most of the gates since the steering wheel is on the right side of the car. Community Watch suggested he get a long pole so he can hit the red button. Without power windows that is not going to work. Anyone have a suggestion. The car sits up high so will those gadgets you put on the side view mirror work?

Yes, if he's got a mirror on that side or somewhere else to attach it.

Years ago I had a right hand drive Bentley. I had to be extra careful such as when passing a vehicle on a two lane highway I could not edge over to look for oncoming traffic. Left turns were a bit touchy, too. Not fun. So, I can understand the hassle he is experiencing.

Perhaps he can back up thru every gate area so his right window aligns with the red button. Of course this may be a problem for him before and after the gate. Having to U turn thru each area. I’m certain that all the other cars in TV will be very patient for him during these maneuvers…. sure.

Perhaps it's time for the entry gates to open automatically, just like the exit gate function.
Eliminate all the cards and costs associated with their distribution and system maintenance.

💯 this. In case you didn’t know, any RFID transmitter will open the gate - you don’t need to push the red button.

Don’t believe me? Try going through the visitors side and swiping a totally random RFID keycard on the pad. It will beep and the gate will open right up. I discovered this when visiting and using my key fob for my garage door up north. I had my keys in my hand as I went to push the button, and the sensor beeped and opened. Great security. If you think about, there’s really no need for the gates at all then: just have cameras everywhere.

You have the function of the gates wrong they are not for security but to give golf carts a safer way to cross the street. When the gate is down safe for the carts to cross.

"cameras everywhere"

Not sure what good taking a picture of a bogus license plate will do.
I notice lots of outa date, outa state plates; and using the old front plate (no date sticker) on the rear.
Also seen on lots of "contractor" vehicles.

I thought we had security here when I bought. What a joke.

He makes an electronic strip that attaches to the right side view mirror. He comes to your home and makes the strip from your card. This allows you to get close to gate . We have them in our golf cart & car & great in bad weather , you don’t have to open window
Cost is $ 25.oo

Welcome to TOTV. The gates may not be needed far south, but on the main MMP’s along Morse and BV they’re the only way to cross the street.

Long pole, affix a transponder to the mirror, "live with it", switch cars.....I mean, why would anybody have a right hand drive car in the US anyway?? As noted above, left hand turns and passing much be "dodgy" at best (use british accent here). Are they even legal?

I have my gate card attached with double sided tape to the inside of the little triangular window that my front window has. I just drive up close to the gate sensor and the gate opens.

He can attach his card to the passenger side window.

The good bit is that he probably won't curb rash his front left wheel because it's a truck-y type thing with big sidewalls.

Nooooooo !!!! That is how so many gate arms are knocked off damaging the vehicle.

The US Post Office operates zillion of right-hand drive vehicles.

If Postal Employees can handle it, it's not a challenging task.

There was someon that was selling adhesive gate passes and that was attached to the driver side mirror. For him it would the passenger side view mirror. one caveat it didn't work on every gate.

[QUOTE=one caveat it didn't work on every gate.[/QUOTE]

I’ve found that the one on our car only works half the time at the gate on Meggison when I come in off the turnpike. Works well at pretty much every other gate north and south. Strange how that happens.

1. Which came first, the Land Rover or the Villages home?

2. Either way, did he not realize there would be a problem?

When we had our big RV we used a telescoping pole, which was actually a car antenna. We hot glued a clip to the end to hold the card. That might work in his case.
