Which is one of the reasons why pool restrooms should be for residents only. Sometimes there are only one or two in the pool. Not safe.

Not a good look for TV? Not sure what your concern is....

Are you worried what others will think about TV? (Who cares?)
Are you worried he didn't know how to hang drywall bc he was in a gang? (Assume he was trained properly.)
Are you worried there are unsavory types working labor jobs in FL? (People who do these jobs aren't generally the country club set.)

The only concern is that hiring gangbangers is not a safe practice for the employer or the community. Not sure how you would prevent that though. Maybe if there was a question on the employment application: Are you in a gang? Yes/No

Perhaps if e-Verify was actually used properly.....

From the article it appears the murders were gang on gang type stuff so unless someone in the pool flashed a rival gang sign (reason for one of the murders) I think you would be ok.

Well , that may explain the recent crack down on drones. Might have "expanded" their recruitment....and didn't want to lose their investment due to being shown in the background of a construction update video.......

This could have been avoided if employers would just ask applicants if they are members of murdering gangs :)

I was surprised, but so pleased that Promises Made were promises kept.

Obviously, there's no background checks for Village construction workers!?

Post September 11, 2001- has anyone applied for a job without going through a complete background check or required to complete an I-9.

Employers used to be fined for non compliance.

Are you suggesting that every pool should have a full-time attendant to check your ID before letting you use the restroom? The murderers would then just hop over the low wall and "go" in the pool.

Plus, a lot of contractors use the pool restrooms. They are working in TV all day so need to "go" somewhere. Are we to ban them, too?

Who knew retirement would be so fraught with life-threatening situations!

With all the retired law officers, military and active hunters here in the Villages this still seems to be an incredibly safe place to be in comparison to Miami and its surroundings. Or almost anywhere else. Think there have been maybe 3 murders, if that, here in the Villages over the past 30 years. One home invasion like incident involving a family member's getting involved with a drug dealer, a murder -suicide, and what may have been a justifiable homicide. There have been a number of suicides.

Now all the speeders and distracted drivers are another story.

Seriously? Is the implication that someone who can viciously murder another person because he is in a rival gang spends the rest of his time as a peaceful, church going model citizen???? Sorry, but good riddance.

Since this is a senior communities, our contractors needs to be held to a high standard. That should include background checks on all workers entering The Villages.

You mean like the market sell off could have been avoided. I am more worried about how a recession will impact my retirement then maybe some gang banger will come to the pool.

E-Verify is not a system all employers use or are they required to use. If the government made E-Verify mandatory for ALL companies to use and this individual was still working, then yes you could say E-Verify wasn’t used properly.

Who would do this?

All contractors required to be registered with TV, showing proof of having a driver's license, current tags, maybe even insurance like workman's comp.
Don't just flag-thru anyone with a truck or trailer.

I saw a truck in my neighborhood doing work. Colorado plates, 5 years expired.
That means no car/truck insurance, probably no FL driver's license, probably paying no taxes, definitely not a licensed contractor with insurance.
and we welcome them ?

I guess the real question is this: Was she actually truthful about this? What did she offer as proof?

Given the number of adult children who move in with Mom and Dad, or Memaw and Papa, who end up in the back of a sheriff's car, maybe they should be background checked as well.

Could possibly be TV knew of his connections, and then alerted immigration on where to find him! Smart move rather than to not hire him and let him go into hiding

If accurate then yes, good riddance.

However as post #29 points out, the chance of encountering a random contractor who is a member of MS-13 and who was involved in a gang murder ten years ago is much less than encountering a child/grandchild with drug, alcohol, or anger-management issues.

Who is going to stop every truck with a trailer to check for a driver's license, current tags, insurance, and workman's comp? Do you check just the driver or all the passengers as well? Where would you put these checkpoints? How do you justify putting up Villages checkpoints on public roads?

Better yet, now they have to be Florida plates and FL driver's licenses and provide proof of taxes as well????

Yep, remember that when open front and hire contractors to do some work in your home and when they sub contract out….
