Small home, Minneapolis.
Current bill $1701
Previous two: 1244, 1494.

(If I shopped around, could I find it cheaper?
Maybe, but I've been with SF a long time, and I'm stupid and lazy.)

Sadly, old school thinking is to stay loyal with the company you have used for many years. Most of us are lazy not wanting to shop around. In today’s world no more it’s better to shop around. Most single companies broker out to other companies now so even they no longer have loyalty.

When you decide that 'stupid and lazy' has become too costly, you'll exert to find better. That's how it goes.

Is there a question here? Or just a vent?

Don’t be loyal to insurance company cause they are NOT loyal to you. They will raise prices or dump you in heartbeat. :beer3:

TOTALLY agree. I read somewhere in a Consumer mag that any insur co or such will renew for as high as they feel they can, without you getting too angry to check around. They recommend, and we DO now - check around after getting their quote. Yes LOYALTY is SO GONE.

I would recommend you shop insurance with Acuity. We have had excellent service and sound rates from them. If you have several claims, pit bulls, dobermans or mastiff type dogs I suggest you remain with SF but I doubt they would allow them either.

I, personally, would not insure with SF. Good luck and if you don't want to shop around, I'll do it for you and you can pay me the difference.

I’ve always had good luck with Dave Ramsey’s Endorsed Local Providers… people who work with you using Dave’s principles. I have been using insurance brokers for probably the past 20 years and do a checkup with them about every 2 unless something changes.

Wow, that's a pretty steep increase. I'm from Minny too, Anoka. I sold my house in 2023 before moving here. Right before I sold it I got a notice that my house payment was going up $200 a month because of an increase in insurance and property taxes. And it wasn't just an email saying it was going up, it was actually a video explaining why, which I've never seen before.

OP - Several of the MN news websites had articles regarding the increases. Here's one:

You need an insurance agent. I had one in MN. I had her shopping for car and home and umbrella ins every 6 months.

Thank you for this recommendation! Are there any glitches to be aware of in advance?

I’ve never stumbled upon any glitches… guess you could use multiple brokers… just make sure they verify the brokers are highly rated. The two brokers I used in the past, one in CO and one in FL even worked with each other to make sure my umbrella policy worked across both states.
