I was thinking about global warming and how soon a tiger could come on over so to speak.

Our oldest two know Sarah quite well, and have spent decades working with the government on core samples in Alaska. Not only to track weather related impacts, but human remains dating hundreds of years of the migration of tribes.

When past Governor Pailin said she could wave to Russia from her backyard she really meant it.

They must have island hopped? There does not seem to have been enough solid land, game, vegetation and shelter for them to have walked? They must have had boats of some kind .

It does freeze in winter.

Even as far south as Japan, you can walk from Russia to Hokkaido (the big north island) from January thru March.

I think I remember 80 miles. Quite a trek, but it was done. It is a rough walk also. The ocean makes very jagged ice.

A number of paleontologists believe some people traveled to North America from Siberia small boats made of saplings and skins. At the right time of year, this would have been quite possible if they stayed slope to shore. They weren’t necessarily searching for North A,Erica but just exploring and following food.

I read the article. Large sections of Siberia are much like what is described there. So are large parts of Alaska in the height of summer. Shrugs and trees, mosses, roots, berries. Bogs. Little lakes. Trillions of insects. Lots of little animals that eat insects. Lots of animals that eat the little animals. The animals may have been relatively easy to kill, as they’d never seen people. There were millions of birds to eat. The article said there was higher land back from the shore where larger animals could have walked.

This is also similar to some of the swampy land in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. It’s similar in the marshes and swamps of Maine. There were huge tracts of wetlands along many rivers in this country. Even the swamps south of 44 near the. Villages have lots of things to eat.

Also, this land bridge was passable for millennia, right? Plenty of time for animals and people to slowly wander east from Siberia, then south.

Our daughter in law and 3 other DRs, for tundra and glaciers was chopper air dropped along with an old truck camper and supplies. Event was 6-8 weeks.

The islands our son Id human remains it was with a Bush Pilot. As a courtesy he also kept tabs on the tourist fishermen. Especially those with no bush expertise to understand the fish next to them is an appetizer you are the main course.
He and his Bear tracker could spend a month with supplies dropped as needed. Biggest complaint wasn’t the Bear, but giant misquotes swarm so thick you would have thought it was flying object. Both he and his wife specialized in Forensic DNA, spent 8 years working for the government in Alaska.

Many Ameicans don't believe that's possible. For a variety of reasons.

Big Diomede Island (Russia) and Little Diomede Island (USA) are only about 2.4 miles apart. You can walk across in winter when the ocean surface freezes.

To this date some Eskimid peoples (Inuit and Yupik, others) cross back & forth between Russia and Alaska, mostly by boat for family, cultural, hunting, business reasons. Bering Sea (http://humanphenotypes.net/BeringSea.html)

Global Warming will do the opposite. It will make the Oceans RISE as the Poles and glaziers melt.

Humans might have used boats, but they could have also walked as could (or not) have the woolly mammoths. Small animals could have crossed and birds also. That's the way I understood it.

Our son is youngest to be published by Smithsonian 3 times on Native Tribes, cross references to DNA between tribes. He lived in Alaska for 9 years, his Bear trackers were Inuit. He sighted Nomadic tribes, on 2 occasions. Which is so rare, only one tracker had ever witnessed Nomad camp.

While our son is greatly respected with many tribes, Nomads will not allow a non native near their camp. His estimate was about 300 at nightfall. At dawn, everything was gone.
He nor his trackers could find any evidence after 2 miles.

It's only been about 10,000 years since the last large migrations across the straits. And people still do it today, both directions. You can walk to Russia in winter, the crossings never ended just slowed way down.
