I have used MyQ product to good effect, but with a Chamberlain GDO.

If you have actual experience using the MyQ product, with an MVP garage door opener, I would appreciate your comments about your experiences.

Thanks, in advance.

Oooohhhh

I'll take you up on that. Looking at the specs I was not confident that all the functionality, including full remote door control, was going to be available in the MVP setup.

Please do let me know, and I'll be in your debt.

I know that I self-installed, up north. It was stupid easy. DID need to get on a ladder to install one unit in the garage ceiling. The other unit just sticks to the inside of the garage door, with Velcro.

Decided to buy it at 7 pm
ordered at Home Depot by 7:30 pm
picked up at 8:30 pm at Home Depot
installed by 10:00 pm

installation instructions were very clear and worked very easily
the hardest part was getting up on the ladder and pushing the learn button
and pushing the learn button, and pushing the learn button
until we made a location adjustment, worked in about 2 minutes

We are DIYers for the most part, do quite a bit ourselves, so have the tools, and lots of fixing experience.

Very handy device, have mine programmed to close the doors @ 11PM in case we forget to close one.

To be clear, working completely with old MVP openers?

Mine worked for a couple years, but then one of the two doors failed. Reconnecting no longer worked. It seems that Chamberlain works hard at making MyQ NOT work with these door openers.

I switched to Aladdin (https://www.amazon.com/Genie-Company-ALKT1-R-Smartphone-Anywhere/dp/B016QB7K5O/ref=sr_1_1?crid=5B53AZHJPYBG&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.NB1-ETyucfaLnf9X-f0wrWsLPeImxg6zKdmNLUb9VtxzIwJJZJ_V5OU_0hwCFYKkDmn mR2Fa-Iy-Y8iTXyFLB9f-culS-RQm7N2fcIBeC5Bsu6OLLcRR9dfZUwo981lMDkcqW5HZ67XK_DT xgrfyjL3jYMD30OA90skMWLFSGbecKMud3pNj9gsbp6ZEuC3Bm efUiJNGQVQXEWb5zXWJjFv5rUo-gvy7yMHpdIvgqeiox6Tp85ENqL3Ytr93L4_rHgOS8kpeMH9RD1 Mjxj0Bk6iWbYh7rTMs5SBOONEtv4k.7RRG_mPbgf0Gi3BVn1iW 1LZnzdw9CJNBS7OTLxfvsok&dib_tag=se&keywords=aladdin%2Bconnect&qid=1745922826&s=hi&sprefix=aladdin%2Bconnect%2Ctools%2C86&sr=1-1&th=1).

I have been much happier with this. It will even allow you to set up an iPhone shortcut so that you can have Siri open the garage door using a voice command rather than actually handling the phone. MyQ could not set up shortcuts!

Aladdin is also compatible with Amazon Key In Delivery, which makes it safer to receive high value packages.

I tried using MyQ with the existing MVP garage door opener. I called Chamberlin and was told MVP was not compatible. I ended up just replacing the MVP garage door opener with a Chamberlin one.

THIS is what I feared. MyQ is not compatible with old MVP technology. Thank you for getting me to my answer!

Mine worked for a few months, then stopped. Rehooked it up and only sends me alerts when I use the remote. Doesn’t operate the door now.

And are you still running the contractor-installed MVP brand garage door openers?

Just last week replaced an 18 year old "OverHead Door" company garage door opener. New one is a Genie. MUCH quieter. The app took a call to customer service to set it up (was pressing the wrong button for the wifi connect). App works great so far. Get alerts to my Lock Screen when garage door is opened or closed. Plus, can be opened or closed anywhere in the world you have a wifi connection.

So far, so good.

Ditto for me. Could not get MyQ to work with old MVP openers and also found MVP was not compatible. I replaced the old MVP openers as they were showing signs of failure. Keypad functioned intermittently and replacement remotes were not available.

I used myQ for years and got rid of it last year. They changed their method of being a smart controller to being a dumb one. If you want to get a controller that’s not compatible with HomeKit or SmartThings then get myQ. If all you want to do is use the app to control the opening and closing of your garage doors (dumb controller), get myQ.
I have automated my whole house and every device is a smart device. I can ask what the status of my garage doors are without opening an app. I can trigger to unlock my interior garage door when my garage door opens. I can create a routine that checks if my garage door opens while I’m outside of my geofenced area and automatically close the door. You can’t do any of this with myQ.
Even if you don’t have a smart home, why not start building 1 when you want to make a function (like opening and closing the garage doors or checking if they are closed while you are thousands of miles away) smart. After the garage doors, then you can easily do your sprinkler controller, your house thermostat, your door locks, lights, then when you want to get more involved, your outdoor grill, refrigerator and stove, water sensors, timers for lights, on and on.

idk...seems a bit harsh to call MyQ dumb. MyQ has some nice features such as maintaining a log history and allowing you to give access to other users on a temp basis including Amazon/Walmart deliveries as well as nice configurable notification capability. You can also schedule to automate opening/closing doors at a specific time and of course you check the status of your doors as well as open/close from anywhere that you have internet access. With IFTTT routine, you can get Alexa combability to check status and open/close doors through voice. For my purposes, MyQ works nicely.

MyQ is cheap, and minimalist, just enough for us at the moment.

And our house's garage door opener is Linnear, so I won't know anything about a chamberlain opener.

Automation with the internet is great, as long as it works. . just another it works until it doesn't situation.

I tried hooking up a MyQ controller to my original MVP opener a few years ago. I spent 2 days climbing up and down that damn ladder...

No luck, despite following the directions to a T... I finally gave up anf trashed it...

Thanks for the feedback. This is why I inquired. Will need to replace the old MVP, if I want to use current technology. Not sure that is the right fiscal move, yet.

Our house is more automated than most, to include sprinklers etc. I do use MyQ and it works for our purposes although has the noted limitations. What are you using for garage door control?

I have two houses with garage door openers that are not MyQ compatible and I use Aladdin. Easy to install, App works really well - can monitor door position, automatically close after specified time so you won’t leave it open all night. Notifies me whenever door opens or closes. No fee to use the App.

I have used the Alladin app with the Genie doors I had in OH. So you are using their app to manage non-Genie doors?

I use the Aladdin app on my new Genie. Kinda wish it wasn't so proprietary and integrated better with a system like HomeKit. Aladdin works fine for my purposes, the one garage door, but not having a systemic system using a single app would be better.

Replacing the garage door to use MyQ is expensive. It will also leave you with MyQ, which is no longer a good choice. Go with Aladdin for the reasons others and I mentioned. It is a much better app.

MVP (LEANER OPENERS ARE ALSO 318 FREG.)ARE 318 FREQUENCY AND WILL NOT WORK WITH MyQ BUT ITS A GOOD TOOL TO MONITOR DOORS.
There are other inexpensive add on's to make MVP openers wifi control anywhere with a app like Tuya which i like and only about 25 dollars as long as you have a good 2.4 wifi signal in the garage. people spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars changing there openers and they DON"T have too.
Knowledge is power do your research folks! The MVP openers are very robust openers but have gone obsolete in manufacturing.
