For the past several days a Sandhill Crane has been limping around on 1 leg. He also been laying close to neighbors home. Is there someone to call that could help?

Probably got hit by vehicle from inattentive driver. Two in my area always crossing street where vehicles fly down street 35 mph plus. I’m surprised they ran the gauntlet this long without getting ran over.

A few years ago there was an injured Cormorant in the street in front of my house. I called Kitty with FL Fish & Wildlife. She was here in 30 minutes. I ended up helping her get the bird in a crate and off they went!

Several years ago a neighbor called trying to get help for a female sandhill with a mangled leg. She was told to let nature take its course.Luckily she recovered, and still visits with her mate and seasonally with her young. You can tell by the way she holds her injured leg.
Glad there are rescues that can help save some of the injured birds.

Let me get this straight. You gave an injured and helpless bird to someone called Kitty? 🙄😬😒

I called them and all they could do was to give me a list of help groups. He is doing fine as of yesterday. He has lost the bottom half of 1 leg. Probably got to close to a gator.

the first group that comes to mind are these people:

Village Birders | The Village Birders (https://www.villagebirders.org/), this is from their site:
If you come upon an injured bird within The Villages, the recommended first step is to call Community Watch at 352-753-0550 to report the situation. Community Watch will refer the matter to a local licensed rehab expert.
