Douglas Is Cancelled, complete in 4 fast moving episodes on Britbox:

Tightly written.

A psychological study.

Attention to detailed portrayal of every character, cast in roles both big and small, some done with perfect we-all-know-the-type-of-person humor -- and others not funny at all.

Twists and turns in the plot, just when you feel bad for one character, you turn a corner.

One episode clearly showing what can happen when a woman is caught behind a door with a powerful sleazeball who will make every smart woman's skin crawl. That particular episode is written in a style that creates some really ugly tension. Women watching will be uncomfortable, to say the least, and will have to be thinking about how that long scene will end. During that scene, there will be women in the watching audience who have found themselves in similar situations, although perhaps more nuanced, when a smile, a clever, too gentle deflection, and a quick exit worked. Some of my sister-boomers will remember and know exactly what I am talking about. (Spoiler: It's not over 'til it's over.)

The varying levels of misogyny all pool into one.

"Hell hath no fury," etc.

Douglas Is Cancelled is one of the best written things I have seen on television recently.

Try mhz. It is an app that has a huge inventory of mysteries out of Europe. All are binge worthy. One German show "Babylon Berlin" was critique by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times as the best series of 2024.

Given the description of the show, I think I'd rather work on a hangnail. Different strokes...

If you have Amazon Prime, you can subscribe to BritBox through that. You might also use the general search for the title and see if that will take you to it. If you don't already have BritBox, there might be a short, introductory deal.

That's how we have BritBox. It's all we watch. Heads above American shows.

I agree. The Brits do it better, especially with mysteries and with humor. Two of my favorite funny British shows are The Vicar of Dibley and The IT Crowd. Both of those are old ones. Nobody does funny characters like the Brits do. (We all know guys like those two in The IT Crowd.)

Towards Zero is a new mystery I watched recently on BritBox. It’s an Agatha Christie.

(Back to Douglas is Cancelled, it was interesting to see Hugh Bonneville in a part other than the Earl of Grantham in Downton Abbey.)

I agree. Speaking of The IT Crowd, Chris O'Dowd is a favorite of mine. He is in two TV series that I liked. Both are currently on Amazon Prime... Moone Boy and Get Shorty (not the movie).

Still Game is a must. And if you like O'Dowd, Family Tree was an epic, Christopher Guest series...

Call My Agent was a good series about a talent agency in Paris. The only problem was that at the time we watched it several years ago it was not dubbed in English so we needed to read the subtitles, still very enjoyable.
