We drove from The Villages to Key Largo yesterday. We had to clear the windshield half way here and then again when we got here. Also had to have the car washed due to those bugs.

I saw some lovebugs flying around a couple days ago when I parked in one of the Spanish Springs parking lots. Not a swarm but definitely a few pesky ones.

They seem to be farther south of us.

I have only seen a couple of them around the Southern Trace area of the Villages.

This is our first summer here as full timers. How long do they usually last? Just curious.

I cut the grass yesterday and believe me, love bugs are here and plentiful.

A few weeks in May, and again in September.

They will have been born and started flying around for several days to a week before you even notice them. At that point, it's around 2 weeks til they seem to disappear. Happens usually in mid-May, and again in early September and can vary by a week or two depending on the climate.

Update: I got swarmed on my way down to West Palm Beach area today. It caught us on Florida's Turnpike near Kissimmee/Orlando and continued on and off all the way to Yeehaw Junction.

2-3 weeks in late spring and then again in early fall. Clean the splattered bugs off of your car paint quickly or they will permanently discolor the finish. Also, when they splatter on your windshield, don’t try to clean them off with your windshield wipers, it will just leave a film of bug guts smudged on the glass that is very difficult to see through. But on a positive side, they don’t bite.

My vehicle grille and wind shield beg to differ.

The only time we’ve seen them on our car was when we took our guests to the Model Railroad Museum in Bushnell on May 9th. Had to clean the front of the car when we got home.

I had a person show me a quick easy way to clean love bugs off your car and windshield. Take a dryer sheet, like bounce and soak it in water and just rub it over the bugs. They will come off very easily. You really don’t have to rub very hard. I then take a hose or go to the car wash and rinse the area. I have done this for years and have not had issues with the paint.
