View Full Version : Talking Gene!

Studies have shown that women have a larger talking gene than men. Women need to say 2500 to 3,000 words a day to feel normal. Men feel normal with 500-1,000 words a day. So don't blame them for this natures thing.

When women are silent it's because they are mad. When men are talkative its because they are angry or its feeds their ego. It's just nature.

However, this may account for why more men go deaf in old age versus women.

Whats been your experience with natures reality?

What? Say it again. LOL
I'd say the study is spot on correct, in my observation.

Men talk just as much as women when around other men. On the other hand, they say way less around women because they know that whatever they say is likely to get them into trouble for no apparent reason.

"I golfed with a hilarious 78 year old man, and he was dishing out life tips the whole time. The most DGAF guy I’ve ever met.

He tells me after the round 'don’t talk to me in the parking lot, my wife is picking me up and she thinks I went deaf 5 years ago'.” -- Jason Ochart

It would seem logical , Women are the more social of the binary , so more interacting with others would be the logical result

I thought it was because men's brains are further from their mouths than women's are, which makes it more difficult to form sentences.

2,500 words? My wife hits 10,000 before I finished my morning coffee.

While the claim that a "talking gene" is larger in women is inaccurate, research does indicate that the FOXP2 gene, which plays a role in speech and language, is more active in girls than boys

I'm in the minority I guess. My boyfriend is the talker and I'm quite happy not saying much.

To quote Abraham Lincoln …
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

What does "social of the binary mean"??

May I add that men tend to shut down when they don’t want to deal with something? And women tend to talk less when there’s no sense in talking to the wall? Just my observation.

Same with my lady and I. For me, it is my ADHD driving it. I find so many things fascinating and I cannot help but share that joy with those around me. Unfortunately, most others do not find the things nearly as fascinating as I do.

Does not stop me. :)

Women are more empathetic than men, as a general rule. As such, women have a far greater desire to ask others about how they feel, what is happening in their lives, etc.

Men are fine without knowing details of events, women desire to know it all. Not for gossip, but to understand better. For example, a man's friend and his girlfriend break up. The man wants to know if his friend is OK, so he asks "how are you taking it?" and if the response is not something really bad, we often end the discussion there. The friend will tell us more if and when he wants to. When the man comes home and tells his lady, she asks for details such as who broke it off, why, etc...then gets annoyed when the man has no idea. How could he be so insensitive to not ask? Neither is wrong, just different. He is not insensitive and she is not overly sensitive.

That is what was meant, imo.

Even if it is true, I don’t see it as a major issue. From what I recall when I was a novice college debater, the average person speaks about 120 wpm, while some may exceed that and speak at 140 wpm, (some from the NE like me). Interestingly, one debate team from PA, was among the fastest with 160+ wpm enabling them to cover more content than their opponents in the allotted time.

So in the present example 1,000 words “per day” translates to well less than 10 minutes of speech per day while 3,000 is certainly more. That being said on the average mobile call, which many of us have daily, I bet we all spend at least 10-15 minutes speaking or listening.

I would suggest that the factoid though an interesting observation, it’s a distinction without a difference, and great prompt for a casual discussion over cocktails when the conversation stalls. Have a great Memorial Day!

Women have to repeat everything to men because they are poor listeners. That’s why they have to speak more! lol!!!!

So, if on a particular day you don't feel normal, you need to talk more and you feel
relieved. Pretty simple.

That's a generality. There are some quiet introverted women and there are some constantly talking men.

Maybe that explained why women tend to look "FOXY" so often.

Back a million years ago, men were hunters and needed to be quiet when hunting, even with a group.
Women ran the village, children and chores, and required a lot of communication.
Over eons, genes or not, the genders have their roles embedded.
