I want to register a complaint about the recent deliveries of The Daily Sun in my neighborhood in Newell. Over the past few rainy days none of the papers have been double bagged and are often soaked and unusable. I phoned the publisher this morning to complain and was told they had no way to redeliver my paper, and while they did credit me for the day, I consider this the same as no delivery at all. I was told that they had recently changed delivery agents here in March, which is about when I started getting half my papers delivered into the yard where they are often soaked by the sprinkler system. I was also told that on rainy days they are required to double bagged the papers, but this has not happened in recent weeks. I went to the Daily Sun website to register a complaint and discovered that they have a list of complaints that can be submitted, but I found no way to report this one. So I am describing the problem here in the hope that The Daily Sun will take some corrective action regarding their new delivery lady in the Newell area.

I often run out and try to grab the paper soon after they deliver it . Have to get up to pee anyway but do have to put on some pants .

Registering a complaint here won't return you any better results than you're getting with the paper. Call the paper back on Monday and ask to speak to the Distribution Supervisor/Manager.

If your desperate for a dry paper the postal stations have a Daily Sun in the paper stations (like the ones back before most went to the the computer to read it) with leftovers? Don’t they offer the online version for free with the paper so someday you could forget about a paper version? There are options? Welcome to the Villages?

OP’S first post I see! Though changes may not be made by posting here there is no need to get “snarky” to their post. OP, I had the same problem when my old carrier finally retired for good. It took two or three calls to the right person but problem has gone away. It’s difficult to get good help these days. Hang in there and keep calling the supervisor of distribution at The Daily Sun.

Possibly, it would be nice if this were the biggest issue in one's life. There are always more good things happening in one's life if you relearn how to look a little more positively every day, I do. If my paper was wet from sprinklers or rain, I turn my oven to 200 and let it bake till dry.

Sure have had this happen to me before. To rectify the sprinkler issue, I reset my irrigation clock to 1:00 a.m. As for the rain getting my paper wet, whether from one or two bags, I turn the oven on to 200 degrees and spread it out on the racks, letting it slow-bake until dry. Problem solved.

You cannot change what has already happened. I personally have had The Daily Sun delivered since 2007 and have had very few problems.

From your statement above, it would appear that you just called today. Give them a chance to correct the problem. If you have called before and see no change, escalate your call to a manager at The Daily Sun.

Good Luck.

You have to call the daily sun. This forum can’t fix your problem.

Sad that people feel the need to take the time to reply with a snarky comment to someone who makes their first post here on SOH.

Try to be kind, OP’s first post, doesn’t realize one can’t come to vent without criticism. For Many of the new and elderly, the paper is their only social event info. Possibly the only daily exercise to walk out bend over, retrieve, walk back.

OP sorry to inform you for 15 years if your paper was wet, a dry Daily Sun was brought to your door. That service is gone.

However in any of our neighborhoods, some who walk their dogs or run at 3am also perform a selfless act. Picking up the newspaper of those who have a difficult time, or it just pouring rain and toss it to the front door.

Maybe one of your neighbors will do the same. Or like many install cameras, ours pings on my phone when the paper arrives. It’s usually 3:20am, unless it’s the resident bear, coyote, bobcat, and one very smart squirrel who likes to activate the cameras blue light.

Welcome to TOTV site, the rainy season is upon us, set your alarm, and if you are able toss your neighbors paper on their doorstep

Thank you for posting about the paper. This has happened to us twice in the last week and not because of sprinklers. Now I know where to go to file a complaint..distribution center. All the posts of smirky comments should take your time and spend it elsewhere.

I have a question: I take trips every now and then to return to find a newspaper thrown on my driveway.
How do I put a stop to this?
It's like putting a welcome mat out, I'm not home please break in and take what you want.

Welcome to TOTV, Mccoygl

This is a great forum for getting advice, and also for venting one's frustrations, but be prepared for a lot pf push-back from those who disagree with you.

My favorites are those who take the time to reply to your post, berating you for wasting their time.

Enjoy the ride :-)

I am in Newell too and have several issues. Go to the Newell FB page and message me - or send one here.

So offering advice to warn those who are new Not to join this site? I will say in 2008 to 2020 rarely was one berated for venting, asking for information, or just needed a word of encouragement. That’s all changed since 2021, far less new posters, a definite loss of long time posters.

How times have changed, unless you meant to hold a Sheldon sign. Then I apologize.

Complaining to everyone will not help! Waste of not only yours but everyone else's time that reads this!

Wrong, not a waste of time and it does help as there is advice to be given. In my case I had the same problem and every day my paper was on the lawn getting wet from sprinklers instead of in my driveway. I called and explained, didn't help, 4 days later called again, didn't help, 4 days later called again and this time it helped, no more wet papers. Also keep in mind that the delivery people come and go sometimes several times a year so you have to get them trained on how to deliver your paper.

On a couple of mornings recently we got rain when it wasn’t expected. Our papers were not double bagged. But on days when we were expected to have rain they have always been double bagged - even if it didn’t actually rain. Annoying - but that’s Mother Nature.

When we go out of town, on a trip, we call the Daily Sun and ask for a vacation stop. You will give them a start date and a date to return service. We have been doing this for several years with no problem. I don’t have the phone number readily available but I believe it is the circulation desk. Hope this helps.

We had the same problem, either by the sprinklers or rain. Called and the person basically said there was nothing he could do. We canceled and haven’t missed it.

The Daily Sun Subscription Help Line is 352-751-7964 and for the POA you have to create an account on their website to opt out of forced delivery (stupid I know). Calling the Sun and registering with the POA is still no guarantee because if they have a new driver or sub driver on that “deliver to everyone” day guess what happens?

Never had a wet paper, of course our
Sprinkler is set well before delivery. That being said, even when it has poured rain it was always dry.

Daily Sun (352)753-1119. Happy to start or stop subscription. We actually had a One year subscription that last 3 years 27 days, because we were snowflakes. The very nice lady pointed out we had one the longest running One Year subscription to date.

On occasion, we have the same problem. Sometimes the paper's double bagged and sometimes not. We also have had several "no deliveries" and have had to call to get a paper. Depends on the carrier and how diligent they about doing their job.

After I finally figured out how to stop delivery of the poa rag, I see they are stopping driveway delivery as of September 2025.

You can go online and create a vacation stop. They will send a confirming email with the dates.

Yep, mark that one off the list. Amazing how many were against it but somehow it just kept going and going. At least the Sun has a paper machine at the mail centers you would think the POA would have tried the same but I guess it would have always been full.
