The Beach Boys rank high among my favorite bands. Brian was hugely instrumental (pardon the pun) in creating their music and "sound".

A shame they could not enjoy their fame a lot more than they did.

Glad we got to see him twice at the Sharon.

I read a "biography" of the Beach Boys several years ago. It was hard to keep everything straight from a timeline standpoint, and appalling some of their family and professional life stories (very dysfunctional), and Brian's mental illness. What stood out was how brilliant and innovative a musician and creator Brian was, and the ways he changed the music back then.

They used to play at an outdoor venue called Pine Knob in the Detroit area. We would see them every year in the 70's and 80's. That was the official start of summer for us! Sad to hear this.

I met him a few years ago when I had VIP tickets to a concert in Chicago. Went back stage and shook his hand. His music was the soundtrack of my teenage years.
This is really a sad day. RIP Brian.

In my view Brian Wilson was a genius level musical composer. Good Vibrations - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Vibrations#:~:text=%22Good%20Vibrations%22%20 is%20a%20song,United%20States%20and%20United%20Kin gdom).

First time I ever saw the Beach Boys was at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh. I was 16, driving my mom's car for the very first time in downtown Pittsburgh with my three high school buddies, all of us dressed in white jeans and vertically striped blue and white shirts (bleached blonde hair also).
Great concert and I have now seen Brian and various iterations of his group eight times, hoping to see Mike Love and his guys again.
Still my favorite group of all time.

His music was the background to many warm summer nights driving my car with the top down during my college years. To paraphrase, I don't know where, but it takes me there.

I was in high school in the 1970's so that is when I listened - even to their old stuff. I grew in eastern Broward County (Fort Lauderdale area) so going to the beach or driving down by the beach was a thing. Seeing the beach still makes me happy.
Their songs made me happy. Brian was such a genius. Way ahead of his time. I'm sad he had such a tyrant for a father and the Landy guy (psychiatrist) who fooled everyone also was awful for Brian.
Thank God he met Melinda and they had 28 years married. When she passed away, I think he went downhill quickly.
Peace and love to his family!
(Also saw Love & Mercy back in 2015).

WOW I watch the you tube video on Brians life and others band members today.
It stated Brian lost his hearing on his left ear from a blow from his dad with a pipe.
We all have our own skeletons in the closet, but this is talent meets dysfunctional.

That means that all three members of the band named Wilson have passed. RIP: Sly Stone at 82 as well.

Nonetheless, he had a long and full life. I hope he was saved and is now in Heaven.
